If you look at the SAKWiki for the Gardener model it does say that "An older version was available that used brass liners in both red and black Nylon scales.". No mention of wood handles though. I wonder if this has been re-scaled at some point?
Just posting for info. GLWTS.
So does the liner material need to be softer with some 'give' to do this?
Seems the liners I have factory fitted on some of my knives don't seem that soft?
Also, if I was using epoxy or similar to help with the bond would that not do the same?
Been doing some reading on this and have a wee follow up question for you @C_Claycomb if you don't mind.
You said this about the KMFS
Limits you to a minimum of 15dps, which is about 2.5dps steeper than I think you should be sharpening for bushcraft.
Been looking at the threads and it seems...
Looking for some advice from the knife handle experts please.
Thinking about buying a knife blank and doing the handle myself. I'd be doing a wooden handle, (probably walnut or bog oak if I can get some) and just wondering if liners have any benefits apart from a purely aesthetic one? Any...
Has anyone used one of these sharpeners and have any feedback on it?
Or have other recommendations for something similar?
To my eternal shame I am only just passable at freehand sharpening and would like something that is quick, effective, repeatable and requires minimal talent or practice to...
One thing missed from your review is Country of origin.
For some people this doesn't matter, while for others it will matter too much. Me, I care a fair bit so am always prepared to pay more for a USA made knife. YMMV of course. ;-)
I have the Helinox of which this is a copy. Good chairs as long as the ground is hard enough so the legs don't sink in. Various solutions available if you find you need one.
Possibly a little out of left field, and definitely very expensive, but fits the robust, midge-net and waterproof aspects.

My understanding of the term EDC is that it comes from the preppers world.
Preppers, being the type of people they are, have a tendency to carry things to cover every eventuality, including alien invasion and societal breakdown. This is why the EDC lists tend to include many pocketed back-packs...
This is the key point.
It is the reason why I find the endless discussion about what is legal carry, blade length, etc, etc somewhat strange.
If you don't bring yourself to the attention of the Police then they will not know, nor care about what you are carrying.
How do you lift it up without burning your hand?
Similar to the video but a bit different. I have always had the handle to the other side from the spout, and once I'm ready to take the kettle off the burner I take off the whistle holding it by the bakelite style knob, and then using the chain...
I've got 2 Ghillies. A big one and a wee one. Use the wee one the most as I'm solo most of the time, but I like them both. Sometimes wish I had a stainless steel storm kettle (whatever the brand) but so far haven't noticed any issues with the aluminium ones. I like the whistle on the Ghillies so...
