    Stormy weather

Power went out last night around 2am and still off. Around 4 I did a walk about to see what was what and realised slates had slipped in the mud room and water was pouring in everywhere… :canoe:

    Stormy weather

We’ve battened down the hatches here tonight and glad we did. Red warning for us on the western fringe of snowdonia too, but the internet hasn’t given out yet and the log basket is full. So I guess we will see what the night brings.

    Site maintenance

Is this message supposed to still be at the top of the main forum page?… “Thank you for your patience today we had quite a big update to install which has added/changed some features. We're still reconfiguring but everything should at least be working now.”

Snow Days in the UK historically?

2012 for me was the last great snow we had. I remember a bunch of us signed out one of the vehicles and went off building snow holes in the nearby hills. A few days later we were up in the mountains enjoying some gully’s and there were talks of frozen waterfalls ready to climb. It all seemed...

Good leather boots and the stretching of the leather

Yes. I should have mentioned that this might not be the solution for the OP’s boots. But it’s definitely a tried and tested method.

Good leather boots and the stretching of the leather

When I was issued with a pair of combat boots, the old black ones not this modern fancy stuff. We were told to submerge them in warm water until completely soaked and supple and then walk around in the wet boots until dry. IIRC I did this twice, and they fitted like slippers after that. I did...

    Waterproof outer layer advice

I bit the bullet recently and picked up a ridgeline jacket on offer at new forest clothing. So far so good, it’s definitely warm and keeps the wind off, but I’ve yet to use it in very heavy rain. It’s definitely not “silent” but it’s soft and comfortable to wear, and should be good for shooting...

Why have Fallkniven changed the DC4?

I’ve wanted a CC4 ever since you pointed them out to me at the bushcraft show the other year. Seems a really much better design than the Diamond.

Paraffin lamps for a lamp newbie

What do you mean by paraffin lamp? A lamp that uses a wick or one with a vaporiser and a mantle?

So what do you all drink these days?

Fine choice! I’m guessing picked up from your adventure in the summer?

So what do you all drink these days?

I too am a single malt fan, I have a collection of around 50 now that I’m slowly working through… I like to drink home brew if it’s with a meal, or a Friday night post work I’ve taken to having a lost lager by brewdog, it hits the spot!

So what do you all drink these days?

Have you finished the Lower east side we got yet? I’ve still not opened mine!

    Woodland Custodianship

Yeah I would think for things like those candle holders or cutting boards etc you’d be fine but I wouldn’t want to make any furniture out of them personally.

    Fish Friday.

We eat more fish and seafood than land based animals. Prawn linguine was on the menu last night and it’s fish and chips for tonight. My inlaws do fish Friday every week but for us we go with the flow and it’s usually fish anyway.

    Reindeer Antler

Here here! Getting fed up with online makers with no credibility. Just because they have a lot of likes doesn’t mean their products cut the mustard. This one absolutely does!! :beerchug:

    Woodland Custodianship

The dieback makes the material very brittle. Even in older trees, those that have the scarring don’t have even the strength for simple joinery project. It’s really of no use other than firewood unfortunately.
