    Growing edible cover for Pheasants

What you could do is plant the 'meadow' of native plants, like the distort, but deliberately add in something like wheat and oats that grow through Winter. Those come up in clumps and are green right through. Other crops that are hardy, like the brassicas will provide food, if a bit coarse by...

    Growing edible cover for Pheasants

I don't see why not...it's native, it's roots hold soil well, it comes up every spring and dies back....like comfrey.....it's not toxic, insects love it, it's good food. I don't know what pheasants think of it though :dunno: It's not a particularly 'high' plant, the flowering stems are tall but...

    Bistort

Sorry, should have said.....basically the recipe is a kind of leafy polenta but made with oatmeal. It's left to set and then cut in slices (a bit like nut roast) and fried....usually with bacon or in bacon grease. It's stick to your ribs good for you food. Very traditional, very easy to make...

    Bistort

It grows quite happily in a big pot in the garden....think of it like growing mint. It's a very pretty plant in Spring, but the leaves are good food :) See if you can get some roots rather than seeds, it takes off very well from roots.

    I’m grieving

I once peeled the PU coating off ten metres of Nancy Crow cotton fabric.....I wanted it for a quilt, but it had been waterproofed for jacket making. Took me days, and a blunt-ish old style table knife, but I did it. You might find that a lot of patience and the judicious use of a blunt-ish table...

    What has happened to Etsy?

It's not the etsy we knew. Even those who claim it's home-made, artisan crafted, etc., are often fudging the truth. Silver jewellery made in India but cleaned, sorted and packaged in the UK is supposedly therefore made here. Wools that never saw the back of a British sheep or hillside, basketry...

    Tribe size

Mine has shrunk. My parents had 56 cousins between them, and family meet ups, visits and events were ...nearest I can find is modern Amish or Mennonite groups....without the religious aspect. A normal family party was fifty to sixty people. They were both rich in friends too, life was very, very...

    2 stone firestarting, without marcasite

I'm wondering too about the definition of 'china'.....because we have fine bone, bone, porcelain, earthenware and stoneware.

    Help with fruit leather

They'll work fine, just peel when pretty dry and turn over to finish the job...well, depending on how 'chewy' you prefer :)

    Still lots of Covid about?

There has been a similar lurgy doing the rounds here too. I thought I'd gone down with my first cold since I had been so unwell.....aye, well, that 'cold' lasted four weeks. The endless snot, and then the coughing started and would not stop. Friends who tholed it said the same thing. Thankfully...

    Help with fruit leather

Yes, but you'll need to turn the fruit or meat during the drying because those sheets are non porous and the pieces will stay 'wet' underneath.

    Still lots of Covid about?

We're quite lucky in that the Lanarkshire health boards have kept a few of the older small hospitals, and they are used as convalescence/respite care sites. When the main (university) hospital wards are too full, especially with frail elderly who just need a bit more time, they open up wards in...

    Ancestry DNA

Between the prolific breeders (Edward 111 had literally dozens of children) like Queen Victoria, and the Queen Mother's mum....everyone's related.

    Ancestry DNA

But it'll only become more accurate if it has more information, more data.....you can see my conundrum. Besides, I'm nosey enough to want to know :)

    Ancestry DNA

That was my response; my sons both work in IT. They say there is no privacy, and it's all traceable....and it's all for sale. They would prefer that I didn't do it, so I will comply.

Butser Ancient Farm coppicers event 11th & 12th July

Wow ! That is a really good offer for crafts folks. No demands for table fees, 'gifts' for the raffle, percentage of sales, campsite costs, etc., Sounds like a good weekend for visitors too
