Hey, that's really cool, I've been involved with a Red Squirrel project in scotland that is collating the most comprehensive information to date on the subject . I've been surveying and monitoring red squirrel for the past year or so and haven't come across anything like that,,,,,,coool!

One of my favourite places in the whole wide world. Done all the peaks round that neck of the woods and have many happy campfire memories. There aren't any decent dogs in that category! get yourself a proper mutt like a spaniel, lab, collie etc and then buy a decent vacuum cleaner and tell the missus to live with it!

    Careers in Outdoors

All good advice above but remember, volunteer , volunteer , volunteer, volunteer. frankly it seems to be the only way into an outdoorsy career. If you can't afford to work for nothing ,,,,,,well tough! there seems to be an abundance of middle class (supported by sugar daddies) types just...

B.B.C. Armistice Day Coverage--Is that it??

I observed the 2 minute silence today (and find I think more profoundly on it with each progressing year). I found myself thinking,,,, why no 2 minute silence for collateral innocent victims of war, or even, say, malaria, starvation or aids deaths victims each year (which hugely outnumber the...

Cats + birds = unhappy face

There are, i believe, around 7.5 million cats in britain. For the sake of argument lets say that one in ten of them catch one bird per week (it could be a lot more or less, this is only a guess!). That would mean 39 million wild birds killed each year by domestic cats. Still not tooo upset about...

    Ludlow survivors

IIRC you have to sign up to view the forum properly. But you still cant view it until you've written a suitably impressive introduction about yourself (those in the know will decide if you've made the grade!) Then after a few days you may be allowed "in". :D I think you also have...

    MSR Stoves

I had a whisperlite for a number of years. I wouldn't have another one though. I found it an incredibly messy bit of kit (i used either coleman fuel or unleaded petrol) It used to get covered in soot and moving the legs to set it up or pack it left my hands filthy. It stopped working on a few...

    Northern Wilderness, your thoughts?

Absolutely magnificent series so far. When I think of all the rubbish that's usually on, it fair warms the heart to see television like this being made.

Advise needed - Panasonic DMC-FZ38 or similar

You sure you want to give up on the FZ38? I got one fairly recently after putting up with a wee compact for a few years and am very impressed. Image quality for me is fantastic, but I'm no expert. These 'bridge' cameras seem to have come a long way over the past couple of years. I used to...

4 Season Sleeping - Weight vs Warm vs Size - The old debate

Just a thought, but have you considered combining a sleeping bag liner or a light weight bivi bag to extend the temperature range of a bag. It would open up a wider choice of bags for you and it would give you a more versatile set up to use according to the temps you encounter.

    Enchanted forest!!! Pitlochry

Ha! I wonder if that was the same year I was there stoo. It was a few years ago anyway. Was really looking forward to it as I'd been told by friends it was really good (mind you they had been consuming seasonally available mushrooms of a particular variety beforehand! :naughty: ) however, it...
