I spent a day with some mates at a localblacksmith's. The guy who organised it requested to make something bushcrafty, instead of the obligatory coathanger. Well we made some hangers, but that was just to get things started. I ended up with a Keltic style knife. And here the coathangers...

Ash Die Back Disease. Keep a look out!

It's wreaking havock with the ash trees in Holland. It quite amazing how fast one mutated fungus can completely change the landscape. And there just doesn't seem to be any cure at all. Still, we have to put this into perspective. Diseases like this have come and gone since the dawn of time...

Make fire with just a newspaper

Maybe you could roll some single sheats really tight, locking it with spittle. When it's dried out you could use it as a handdrill?

    Wet Forming sheath

I have only made one wetformed sheath, and formed it before stiching. The result is just fine. I think you can make te sheath fit tighter if you stich afterwards, or at least, that's what my gynaecologist told me.

I can smell Autumn in the air :)

If you can see them turning brown, i would worry about the trees, not about the season. Ahh, let me guess: Horsechesnut?

A warning to all venturing out...

I've got a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in my tent when i run the wood burning stove. I clear a spot in the back of the tent and just lay it on the ground, but in the manual it say's to hang it up on the ceiling. I'm not sure the alarm will work properly laying on the ground. Can anybody enlighten me?

What's your preferred shelter when camping?

i have tried a hammock and tarp setup, but my back doesn't agree. And i do feel very comfertable in a tent, nice and protected. Although when i'm out alone i prefer sleeping under a tarp, but on the ground. I'm going with the tent.
