    2 questions...?

I prefer a pump-drill as I can use that and it's much lighter, will even fit in a big jacket pocket. My tin contains fero rod, long matches with striker glued to tin lid, lighter, cotton-wool/vaseling balls, a bit of birch, and lives in my jacket pocket.

Wildlife Trusts - Hereford Nature Trust: Winter Tree ID Day

I was gifted with some lovely sheets of birch bark from fallen trees there, loads of hanging wood to if there'd been time ... must go back. And there's at least 3 orchid species in that wood HM, will take there later in the year.

Wildlife Trusts - Hereford Nature Trust: Winter Tree ID Day

I'm a member of Herefordshire Nature Trust, is anyone else a member of theirs? I went out with them today on a winter tree and twig ID and had a very enjoyable and educational day - and all for free. The man leading it, chap called Martin Hales, is extremely knowledgable and very good fun as...

That is a stunning shot !!! On the spring front, we've had robins courting here for 3 weeks; the tits are doing their mating call; we had the sparrowhawk hunting our bottom hedge this afternoon and she made a kill; we saw the first abay rabbit of the year this morning; a heron flew over this...

    neolithic diet

Yes I know about the recent past of seasonal grazing, high/low pastures, shielings etc in Britain and one of my friends near here is "the" man on keeping pigs in the wood, teaches it, etc. I'm thinking back to pre-Ice Age stuff, or perhaps pre-6000 yrs ago in parts of Britain. And for when...

    neolithic diet

Thanks for the link, Mary, very early prehistoric diets are something I find very interesting. Do you happen to have any links on paleolithic and mesolithic diets? Also more stuff on pastoralists would be good too ... something between hunter-gatherer and farmer, where (for instance) reindeer...

Tarps, are yours pre-rigged with guylines or not?

I have a similar bag, but the extra ridgeline is a spare as mine goes under anyway. I don't use crabs. I usually use sliding knots to tension but am considering tensioners, just got a bag-full.

What is your best bit of kit?

My mulit-pocketed jacket - it goes everywhere with me whether I'm bushie-ing or not. Holds everything I need for living, in the wilds or in a town.
