    Right Hand Left Hip?

Baldric on the left side, which is usually a Clipper or right side for the hip with any other knife. Funnily enough I found that the Baldric was a very useful carry when on a week long course with woodsmoke.. yet these days it's more common for me to go for a belt carry. I think I'l take the...

    Definition Of Bushcraft

S'funny that Ray Mears' best book is called The Survival Handbook... not mentioning bushcraft at all... and the guy who wrote (Northern) Bushcraft talks about being a survivalist!

Yup, lubricate the bearing block! :You_Rock_ I was looking for Lime, and the retting being done in flowing water rather than using Lye, but that would be pedantic even for me  OK David, pm me your address and the book will go this afternoon :)

    Competition for new-ish members

aha, thanks David, question 1, Not what I was looking for, was thinking of an activity that the general public will think of in relation to bushcraft ( and not "eating snakes" as my workmates thought...). Wood is involved though. question 2, not the tree "I" was thinking about but won't...

What are you using as a Tinder box?

Good thing about the pouches is it allows the tinder to breathe and thus dry out. If you put tinder that's even a little bit damp in a tin, you're going to end up with a tin of damp tinder.... which is where the cotton wool and vaseline comes in.

A Question for people working in the countryside.

I think it was the Countryside agency. I see they have an archive on their site. I fear I may be running egg-sucking classes for women who's kids have kids, so I'll stop now in the hope that someone who knows what they're talking about comes along! :)

What are you using as a Tinder box?

Left pocket of my swannie always seems to have a good mixture of stuff since I tend to put freshly gathered stuff in there to dry. Also use a plain tobacco pouch I got from... a tobacconists with a big stuffed bear outside. and, to be honest I always have a film canister with...

Thanks Fred, It's not just for full members, and I don't think international postage would be too much of a problem. If there's not much interest I might be persuaded to open this to a wider audience, so keep an eye on the thread. ;)

    Competition for new-ish members

Ok, here's a competition open to people who've joined BCUK in 2007 or have less than 50 posts at the time they answer the questions. You'll have to use tracking and foraging skills to find the info. I guarantee you'll find it all on BCUK, although not all of it is in the forums :naughty: . I...

    Ray Mears

To be honest I wish we'd better things to do than discuss the guy's private life, it's really got nothing to do with Bushcraft or Bushcrafters and doesn't reflect well on the forum, IMHO :(

    Antarctica Shirt (Country Covers)

:11doh: That's why I couldn't find it using google or advanced search :11doh: forgot about hard copy.... IIRC Stuart's review was very positive with a good explanation of how exactly the material responds to sparks etc.
