Paul Kirtley Plant & Tree ID Masterclass

I agree, it's a fabulous course. Learnt so much from it. Far more than i thought i would from an online course. And what is lovely, is that, once you have joined, you have full access for the life of the internet, not just a year.

    Breeks - who wears them

Was shooting up in the highlands a couple of months ago and our Ghillie still swore by his breeks. Harris tweed and only his 2nd pair in 25 years (apparently). He wore them very loose fitting for ease of movement.

    Pascal Baudar -

We got The New Wildcrafter Cuisine, The Wildcrafting Brewer and The Wildcrafted Fermentation. i believe there is another in the pipeline for next year. They are all good, it just depends what skills you are looking to work on. Worth going onto his instagram account and he has lots of tutorials...

    Pascal Baudar -

What exactly do you need to know? We have several of his books and have been on several of his webinars. He is a crazy guy, but very knowledgable. Most of his stuff is easily transferable to the UK. he is Belgium by birth, so he has a good knowledge of European plants and species to, and, from...

Hmm - Chicken of the woods on Yew?

From everything i have read over recent years, including articles by some very prominent Mycologists, and our own Jeff Dann, there is no evidence that the toxins contained the wood and seeds of the Yew, transfer to the fungi. But as Slowworm said, bits of yew getting trapped in the fruiting...

    Indigenous people

I spent a couple of days with some Sami reindeer herders in Northern Norway a few years ago. Learnt some really useful hints on winter fire lighting and tracking the reindeer. Was interesting to discuss how modern gadgets really divided various herders, some loving satalite tracking, others...

Truly Impressive Skills with Trad Axes

Well, that puts my meagre skills to shame. So good to watch true craftsmen at work. I do hope these skills aren't being lost with the advent of modern machinary.

How long did your trousers last?

2 pairs of Fjallraven Barrents pros, worn pretty much every day for 8 years (granted, i only wear them in the evenings during the week as they aren't chainsaw proof). 1 pair the a@se is starting to go, the others, there are a few holes (most likely fag burns). I do keep them well waxed in the...

what are you making for people this Christmas?

No Pics, but have just finished smoking 2 salmon (after curing in dill, beetroot and Talisker), and curing and smoking 2 full pork bellies for bacon (again, cured in lingon berry and highland park). Problem is now, they all taste so good, i don't want to give them away .

    The last igloo - BBC4 9PM tonight

Was a nice program. obviously saddening that it's a way of life that's dying out, and not just due to climate change, but as the way of life changes in modern times.

A couple of big Thank You's for Customer Service

I just wanted to say a couple of huge Thank you's to a couple of companies i dealt with recently. First off, Roselli of Finland. I've had one of their great (if not different) Axes for over 15 years. Last year i managed to break the handle and have only just gotten around to ordering a new one...

    Squeaky Sabre 45

Hey all, earlier this year i finally succumbed to a Karrimor sf Sabre 45 (after my 35 was retired). However, after using it for a couple of months, it seems to have developed a squeak. It sounds like the F-Form mat is rubbing in the sleeve. After a while it becomes very distracting. Has anyone...

    Recommendations for waterproof over trousers?

+1 for the MPT ones. Got mine from evilbay for £15. Full length side zips (if you go for the lightweight ones), pretty breathable (certainly on a par with my much older mountain headwear ones they have replaced, just £100 cheaper and in camo). They also fit well and don't seem to want to slide...

Lightweightish Lidl/Aldi menu for 5 days

Yup, instant freeze dried mash. Nugs, yup, a dehydrator is definitely the way to go. I aways carry a small jar of dried and powdered veg, can be used as a stock, soup or just flavoring. I generally just add whatever i have in the kitchen that's going off or the veg bargain bin in the supermarket.
