What do you wish you learnt from a relative?

Something like that yes. What I experienced when I was young was that I thought I was so cocky, doing things I thought my parents had never done or had no concept of, when actually they had done the same things in their own era, in their own way, and now my children think that they are...

What do you wish you learnt from a relative?

Do you think that it takes being arrogant and cocky to in the end truly value your elders? Sort of like a homecoming when you realise that no matter how hard you tried you couldn't actually reinvent the wheel and that it has all been done before ?

What are good basic skills for our domesticated life?

Neither would all the men who find themselves in that very same position :-)

Are you making any plans for the Snow?

Be prepared if you have a freezer full of stuff - power cuts last year ruined a lot of (expensive) meat I had in mine. We had 9 hours without electricity just recently and plan B was to put all the food from the freezer in a sealed box out in the snow.

    True or False

Oh I'd love to go and hunt for some storage with her but more importantly the next person tells me they are having eggs and bacon for breakfast.

What are good basic skills for our domesticated life?

I enjoyed reading through all of these noble skills that we need to be teaching our kids. I would say though that the most important principle I have been trying to teach my two girls over the years is to work as hard as you can to find a man who will do all that stuff for you.

Trail Cam, Nest Cam etc. Wildlife Photos and Videos

Oh great thanks. It sounds exciting. I live in quite a rural area and we have lots of tracks in the snow at the moment so I think I have some idea of where the main thoroughfares are. Then I guess it's a casse of just playing around with it. There are lots of different models on amazon. I think...

Trail Cam, Nest Cam etc. Wildlife Photos and Videos

I would love to get one of these. Does anyone have any tips on how to set it up or is it just a case of trial and error?

Are you making any plans for the Snow?

We have fresh snow but we have had about a metre of it in the garden since early December, so it's not really anything like 'news' here. Unfortunately there is never a day when the schools are closed or the roads are shut, the ploughs are just too efficient (and the infrastructure too well...

    True or False

True (and False).... I'm thinking about it and I could very well go out this morning but it's too darn cold .... The next person is wishing they'd bought that snow shovel from Aldi when they saw it last week ....

    What did you buy today?

I just bought a Hennessy hammock with the insulation. That was a BIG purchase but they got a sale on right now and this is the last day. I had to take a deep breath before clicking that 'buy' button but hopefully that hammock will set me up for a good time to come.

    Base Layer

I think you go with what you can at the end of the day don't you. One item of wool supplemented with cotton or poly is prob going to do the trick in most situations, I've got favourite bits and bobs from 20 years ago that I have no idea what they are made from but it does the job. If we were...

Dogs - who owns what and how did you choose it?

Totally agree with this as I know I am the most important person in my dog's life. I spend the most time walking, grooming, playing, washing, sleeping and cuddling with her. She gives me a lot back in return. My husband is the dominant character in our house and she respects him but she is much...

Dogs - who owns what and how did you choose it?

quoted from the article: "Preferences will become established in repeated encounters, but pet dog relationships are far too complicated to be defined through a simple, “one individual dominates another”. A smooth relationship is one in which each knows the other’s preferences and defers...

    How useful are reviews

I tend to use Youtube for independent reviews, as mostly the you tubers (in bushcraft anyway) are people that get products themselves or have it come their way rather than be sponsored by the company. Some great youtube reviewers are also here on BCUK. It gives you a chance to look at the...
