    Gilwell 24 2011

Quick post to say that the Gilwell24 bushcraft base is happening this Saturday, I'll post some pics of it when I have time. Tamarack Outdoors are going to be coming down tomorrow for the event thanks to Simon M, and I asked Woodlife Trails, who were hoping to come, but I got a text from Pablo...

Looking for ID on a huge fungus

I'm no expert but I thought it looked similar to the Penny Bun that Uncle Ray featured once. I'm back up to the site on Friday so as long as it's still standing I'll take a pic of the underside. It's standing in a grassy field margin about 6 foot away from trees and 20 feet away from water.

Looking for ID on a huge fungus

I've put the chewing gum packet in for scale. It seemed like it was made of foam, there wasn't any skirt, white spores or even gills (foamy underneath too). I was going to snap the underside but the camera battery died. Where the stalk joined, the 'umbrella' curved in slighly. Very...

    Father's Day

I've got the Bear Grylls autiobiography 'Mud, sweat and tears' coming...don't shoot me down, it'll be a good read whether you like him or not lol :)

    Venison Jerky

Done in four hours? I've seen two days quoted before! Is this a quickie version and have you tried with a lesser heat for longer?

How do I educate my palate?

Thank you for your replies. I've saved, seasoned and sliced some of the Fallow Venison to make into jerky at Gilwell 24 and I'm rather looking forward to it. I'll adapt Kerne's post into a mantra when I try it 'You now like beer, you now like beer...'. :)

How do I educate my palate?

I'm up for trying most things and of course most folk who are into bushcraft love to forage and so on, but I feel that I'm hampered somewhat with my palate. I'm happy to try foods of plant origin, I'll eat most sea and shellfood (although the appeal of Oysters is beyond me) but I come up...

Bushcraft Magazine - Why So Expensive?

I've got a serious suggestion crazydave...if you have the mags lying around, I'm missing some editions so you could shift some, get some cash and they'd go to a good home! PM me if you want to...

Bushcraft Magazine - Why So Expensive?

*How can you say it's not any good if you've only ever read issue one fully, especially as the first few issues were the thinnest as the mag started! Tell us what articles they should do seeing as they have done everything from fire thongs to bow making!! *What High Stree magazines don't...

Bushcraft Magazine - Why So Expensive?

Subscription for Bushcraft & Survival skills is £29 for six editions (UK) so I'm not sure how good or bad overseas rates are. I put this thread on for people to reference articles in the said mag http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70565&highlight= It has gone from 50 pages to...

Hi Greg, I know that you & John Fenna live in Pembrokshire, and as I've chanced upon your details first I'm dropping you a line concerning what's what around the coastline if that's OK. I'm visiting late May for a week away with the family and in-laws & we are staying just round the coast...

    Woodland Ways Weekend 29th-31st July

Just signed up with Woodland Ways bushcraft school to do this course http://www.woodland-ways.co.uk/book-...payment-6.html When Ray Mears burst on the scene I would have done anything to get on a Woodlore course, but older and wiser I see many other schools that I'd like to patronise. Jason...

    Bushcraft Living

It's Fergus Drennan, aka the Roadkill Chef. He talked about it at The Excel earlier in the year and he processes stuff in vast quantities (eg kilos of Acorns in one go). He doesn't buy meat either for ethical reasons but takes fresh roadkill, everything from Badger to Lapwing! He's a regular...

    99.99% sure these are Alexanders

Evening. I've found these near me and I think they are Alexanders, but being of the Umbelifer family and not near the coast I have a .01% doubt. I've double checked on Wild Food Mentor, the leaves and flowers look right, the newer flowers have the covering and it's leaves smell of a hint of...
