Re the Scout Survival badge, I had a little think about what reasonably available foodstuffs (both natural and interpreted) the Scouts could have available to them to make their survival meals from. From nature they can of course consume nettles, either via a pot or roasted on the stem (plus the...
Cheers ASM. We 'saw' a seal nick another guy's fish as it goes. The water goes flat around the line (like if you hold a hose underwater) and you don't actually see it. The fisherman's curse was audible though!
Blog updated, I scored! Thanks for your help folks, this thread made good reading :) http://austinlill.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/home-made-mackerel-lures-and-traps.html

Some great tips there guys thank you. I feel fairly confident but I'm a bit miffed as I've made two lure setups as per the misinformation about handling :P
I've got a holiday in Brixham coming up and I'm looking to try my hand at mackerel fishing off the harbour wall. If there are any seasoned mackerel fisherman out there I'd appreciate any tips. If I'm right it's wait for high tide and reel the lure, then pull the rod up every now and then to make...
I was clever as I knew one was damaged but I said 'We have three parasols, let's sell one'. I put them up for us to choose and she said 'That one's been chewed by mice, it'll have to go out'. Covered. SWMBO stands for She Who Must be Outmanouvered in this case :D
I recently found one of my garden parasols had sustained some mouse damage so I have used the remaining parts to construct a poshcrafting jerky tower so that can make some in my backgarden whenever I want :lmao:. I've done this short blog write up about it's construction, and in it is a link to...
I've been lucky enough to get hold of a pre-release copyof Tristan Gooley's (The Natural Navigator) forthcoming book 'The Walker'sGuide to Outdoor Clues and Signs'. It is a big beast but bursting with lots offantastic facts about the great outdoors (and not just purely aboutnavigation). I've...
A while ago I qualified for a long service award at work which Ive decided to take in 2016 and it gives me seven months off between June and December.
I work two weekdays normally so Im looking to fill two days a week constructively and wondered if anyone has any suggestions of places (and...
If you are a bushcrafting scouter/ scouting bushcrafter and use Facebook then there's a page on there you may be interested in. Without wanting to sound cliquey it is for those involved in scouting who have definite bushcraft leanings, as opposed to a.n.other bushcraft page. Hope to see you...
I recently visited the excellent World of Bushcraft centre in Bedford (the retail and demo part of Woodland Ways) to have a two our 1-2-1 session with Jason Ingamells to pimp my bowdrilling action. The time just flew by and I came home buzzing. Rather than type loads out and faff about loading...
I recently visited the centre again for a bushcraft 1-2-1 and if you are heading there via the M1 or A1(M) then the picture below may help towards the end of your journey. You need to leave a roundabout from the A603 and on Google maps it says head down the A5140...well it the turning is...
Don't leave it too long between visits or you'll have a tonne of new posts/ threads to look through :P I find that I can't do them justice if there are.

Joe is spot on, even with the rubber 'sole' added. I would add that I was helping out Woodlife Trails on Saturday and gave them an wear but, not surprisingly, my feet did start to feel a little chilly after a while so factor in a thick pair of socks to your measurements if extended winter...
Thought I’d share with you how I found making a pair of the ‘Joe O’Leary hybrid moccasins’ as per the article he did for Bushcraft and Survival Skills magazine, and latterly on his blog (which I’ve posted about before)…
