To stay or to go? Intentionally goin

Your profile says Bedfordshire- why not hit up cornwall or South Wales instead? On my local rivers the dry fly fishing is on big time, maybe you could even get a week camping near to some chalkstreams ;) *cough* mayfly *cough*

    Trip to Loch Lochy

I've been on a cruiser holiday to Inverness and back along the Caledonian, we tried lots of lures and targeted the pike too but the only success we had was on worm- this was mid April mind.

    Pair in Ironwood

Wow great idea with the knife/grind shape! I know Broch has mentioned food prep but to me it looks like a cross between full on bushcrafter and a delicate wood carver. Fantastic point on it!

    Jack-By-The-Hedge Alliaria petiolata

Now your asking! I've never really noted it before- I know I definitely collected and made some early September. I think they will be out earlier than that though. Once you have your eye in for the seed pods you'll see them everywhere and they are very easy to collect

    Carving is patience?

Eyeballed em- but I wouldn't recommend it. The edge is slightly convex, which is useful for some corner cuts, but a flat bevels is much more useful for long sweeping cuts, which I use a mora 106 for now.

    Baked Alder kayak spoon

Same temp but only 3 to 4 mins works well for that, but to be honest the pure oil is so slow drying I just put a thin layer on at room temp and leave it a week or two before use. Regarding the baking for colour, a lady named Deborah Schneebli Morrel has done much experimenting and I follow her...

    Baked Alder kayak spoon

I use it purely for colour change- I dry the spoon after carving in a cool spot in the house for a week or so before finishing. I lightly oil the wood with pure tung oil before baking, this stops too much moisture coming out and speeds up the colour change process so that there is less chance...

    Baked Alder kayak spoon

A first for me in two ways! I can highly recommend the kayak spoon style for beginners, it's very quick and simple to carve, and strong to boot. Alder a great wood to carve with, soft enough to be easy on the hands, yet dries strong unlike willow, very similar to birch, I'm impressed with the...

    Foraged teas

Raspberry tea tonight- good flavour similar to bramble but not quite as nice IMO, didn't have as nice astringency to it and a little bit more vegetal.

    Foraged teas

Tea from fresh bramble shoots is excellent :) really reminds me of green tea. Nice astringency to it.
