Surplus Shops in Luxembourg, South/West Germany, Belgium?

We're off on a road trip taking in NE France, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. Having found a superb place in Brittany a few years ago, I was wondering if I'd find anything similar on this trip. Does anybody know of any good surplus shops around Freiburg/Black Forest, Luxembourg, Koblenz...

    New-to-Me Matterhorns

I picked up a pair of surplus/used full Leather Matterhorn boots with Goretex lining. My comparisons are with my German (2000?, MkIV?) army boots with stitched sole that have never fitted me properly. First impressions are of well-made boots, but much less substantial than the Germans...

    Para boot repair

Am I the only person who finds that Para boots are far too big in internal volume? My feet may be slightly narrow (Italian motorbike and walking boots normally fit me the best), but I've never had any shoes quite so excessively spacious inside.

Be warned, those Gold Therabands don't last long at all.

    Which PARA boots?

I find that my 285/107 size ones have far too much internal volume for my average/slightly narrow feet and have to use 2 thick insoles to take up some of the space.

    Poor man's Tilley

Update: the poor man's Tilley is going strong and has become my first choice headwear. The first dose of wax let in a bit in a downpour so I re-did it and it is now keeping out heavy rain.

    Poor man's Tilley

I wore my new hat on a very windy and showery (rain and hailstones) scramble over the Carneddau yesterday. The hat worked really well and kept the rain out. I can thoroughly recommend waxing these hats.

    Todays Boot market buys

The one on the right looks like the Spear & Jackson 'Neverblunt' that I have. It can be sharpened quite well, but is quite hard.

    Poor man's Tilley

I picked one up this morning. There were 2 colours in stock. It is actually quite good. The pocket in the top contains a foam insulation pad. I've removed the Karrimor badge (it's not Karrimor in any real sense) and rubbed Nikwax into it for all-weather use as I'll still use my lighter-weight...

    german para boot sizing?

German Para boots are very wide and deep. hey are really good boots, but they do not fit me well. I've experimented with various insoles and got them somewhere near, but I think I'm going to have to look for an alternative.

What do you wear under your Norgie?

They are available in different sizes.

What do you wear under your Norgie?

Coolmax or Merino base layer underneath. Norgies are cheap, good in dry, cold conditions and static activities, but they do soak up moisture. I've started favouring wool jumpers (thin Merino, medium or thick wool blend dependent upon temperature) instead of fleece, although fleece would dry...

    Mercedes G Class

There were loads of these in Moscow when I was there a few years ago. AMG versions (of course) with leather seats and black windows and very hard looking blokes getting in and out of them outside casinos.

    Mid layer required

I'd also recommend a wool jumper (or 2).
