    Cumbria Spoon group anyone?

Ok. So there is a spoon group meeting at the National Trust hub in Windermere one Tuesday evening a month from 5-8pm. That doesn’t work for me in the winter, but I hope to join a few sessions in the summer. I’m posting it for others who may be interested.

Cool. We can take it to DM. I’m also in Kendal so maybe we could find somewhere nearer to home. S

    Cumbria Spoon group anyone?

I’m getting back into carving some spoons but I always lose momentum after a while when working on my own. Does anyone else in South Cumbria or North Lancs want to help set up a small informal spoon carving group? Potentially there’s a suitable venue in Windermere if you’re interested. It would...

    Bushcraft Santa?

Happy New Year all. Just wondering if any of you got any fun bushcrafty stuff for Christmas? I thought mine was going to be all dull this year & then the family gave me a voucher for one of Barn’s spoon carving courses in February. Result!

    Secret Santa

Sorry I’m a bit late to the party! Got into some nice rum (Foursquare Select Cask 2009) & not entirely sure which day we are on now! Thanks to whoever sent me this gorgeous snowman!

    Secret Santa

Me too. I do a lot of lurking these days. It would do me good to have to make something again.

    Any Chefs - Book suggestion

Plus one for Larousse Gastronomique. Also for Food Lab. Michel Roux Sr’s book Pastry is a classic for patisserie also. That should at least get you started. Then probably Modernist Cuisine to catch up on the molecular stuff. Great British Chefs online is also good for keeping up to date.

Sold Ben Orford Field Knife. Final reduction.

Ben Orford Field knife with leather magnetic neck sheath on paracord. Very little used as the antler tine is just too small for my big paws. The blade is spot on. Very sharp & holds the edge well. Rounded back on the blade so better for whittling etc I think. This would make a great Christmas...

    Beeswax

Beeswax is miraculous stuff. For all the purposes above and also for me, for a couple of very specific jobs. The first is to make “white butter” to line my copper moulds to bake cannelés de Bordeaux. The second, to line a glass bottle in which to age a Negroni or Boulevardier cocktail. Beeswax...

    Tool Roll suggestion.

I found a decent canvas chef’s knife roll online somewhere for about £20 which would be good for tools. Only got about a dozen slots though, but you could put a few extras in the middle inside the flap to get more in. Has a carry handle and a shoulder strap too, which is useful.
