Bushcraft on a budget - adventures on the High Street

I've seen the drainer/750ml pot being used as a hobo stove before - the same kit is available in ikea and I'm sure someone on here has mentioned it. I seem to recall it needing a bit of modification. I think the sides were cut out a bit to let the air flow through properly as the holes were a...

    Solar still not for desert

Not worth the effort full-stop I think is the general opinion. I've always liked the idea of these solar stills. It gives the impression you just make it then sit there and let the sun do it's stuff and you get a drink of water for very little effort. I suppose that's why the books...

    Can someone help please

I'm not sure there is such thing as a 'concealed weapon' in British Law - weapons are not permitted, either concealed about your person or visible to all. A sub 3 inch slipjoint would be fine either in your pocket or in a fancy pouch. As long as no one has good reason to believe it is...

    How much do you carry??

Whatever you're doing and wherever you're going you will always pack too many spare clothes. As long as you take time to dry things when you can and practise good hygeine you can get away with very few spares. Socks are a must though. :D

    Stainless steel pot\jar

Where did you come up with the idea of spreading these ashes for the 'spirit of the fire'? Was it some old tradition you read about or is it your own thing that you just like to do?

    Caught in the cross hairs

I was thinking the same thing. And he doesn't look as 'focused' as you would expect if he were chasing an insect. I'm fairly sure a Goldfinch wouldn't have any need or desire to chase an insect but an interesting pic none the less. I'm always impressed with your pics Red

    Littlehall meet (Kent)

You probably made a good decision there - the early hours of Sunday were damp to say the least :D A small amount of foraging was done none the less :) Shame you couldn't make it. 'Next time' is apparantly being arranged as we speak (Mike?). Keep an eye out here.

    Lighting Cramp Balls

Aint that always the way  Try 'roughing up' the surface of the crampball to give the spark more surface area to come into contact with. This also helps to hold the spark on the crampball instead of it bouncing off. And make sure they're very, very dry. You shouldn't have...
