    Random confessions

We had a Rowntree's black cherry jelly block in the fridge. It was in there for a good few weeks. Then one morning, as I was leaving for work, I took it and ate it. 'It's been there weeks', I thought to myself, 'she won't know'. Couple of days later I was asked in a less that conciliatory voice...

This is Whiskers the blackbird. For the last week or so, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, he sits on the top of the tree and sings his little heart out. Because of the white feathers around his mouth we've called him Whiskers...

I'm about half way through 'The Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood. It really is an extremely good book and deserves ever bit of recognition it's received. So glad to be reading it.

    Coat breast pockets - why?

Don't like a hood!? Good heavens, man! As stated above, they're great for putting over a hat for extra insulation, or just pulling up to temporarily shield the sun from your eyes, or for walking around shopping centres trying to look menacing. Now what I can't stand are baseball caps. Looking...

They're common only in name (well, their actual name is vivaporous lizard) All lizards and reptiles in the UK are endangered and at risk and steadily decreasing - they're not 'common' anywhere now, really. So you should be super chuffed to have them in your back garden. I wish we did.

Yes, green common lizards often occur - I've seen many myself. Common lizards can vary quite widely in colouration. Most people will say, 'if it's green it's a sand lizard' but that's not necessarily the case. There are quite a few differences between the two and seen side by side you can...

Bought that Entymologicon book today. I'm looking forward to starting it. I see he's written another on old and disused words and I thought to myself, 'I'll read that next.' And now I'm home and kicking myself that I didn't buy it at the same time. Doh!

That's a splendid offer but it looks like the kind of book I'd like to own and dip into now and then, so I think I will buy a copy. Appreciate the offer though.

That book has got 'ME' written all over it. Definitely one for the list. Ray has a nice easy style to read, and this is another book I know I'll love to read. That's also made it on the list. I struggle reading Gooley's stuff - I just don't seem to get on with his tone and style. But this also...

Out for a walk on the hills today and I did something I haven't done in a while - whittle a simple bird and leave it on a post, just out of eyesight but viewable to those who like to look when out and about...

    Limpets

I like limpets. They have the same taste and texture as whelks. So if you like one you'll like the other. We cooked them by placing them on a flat stone then piling coals on top. Give them 5 minutes and eat.

    Wow, inflation

Blimey, whereabouts in Broadstairs was that!? That's Broadstairs punching well above it's weight, right there. Yesterday I had a 99 cone with a flake and red syrup. It was £1.50, which is the price it was the last time I bought one, which was donkey's years ago. As I sauntered up to the ice...

    What a fantastic day!!

And whilst we're at it, we don't have a national anthem either. We use the royal anthem as a default. For my money it should be this: or this: I'm sure there's something there we can all get behind. As for abolition of monarchy resulting in bloodshed and violence. Well, that was a long time...

    What a fantastic day!!

Rare though coronations are, even rarer is the abolition of a monarchy. If it's part of history you want to be, and witness truly historical events, then that would be the way to go...
