Shame on us for not thinking of it sooner: The Hound Of The Baskervilles. The Basil Rathbone version, naturally.

Autumn's here, the spiders are trying to come indoors !

You know what, I don't think I have a phobia of any animal at all. Of course, I'm cautious and respectful around dangerous animals, but not phobic. If I was locked in a room with a hungry tiger and someone was towel-whipping its love spuds then I'd naturally be concerned, but I think that's only...

Shops gone after years of business

I still miss Our Price. Being serious, though, the history of the high street shop isn't actually that long. It's mostly a 19th century invention and may go down in history as a passing fad. Personally, I feel no loyalty to it and see no intrinsic reason why the high street should exist. Mind...

Autumn's here, the spiders are trying to come indoors !

I love it when the spiders come in. I love watching them. So peaceful. Unfortunately I'm not the only one in the house but I am the only one who shares that opinion. So if I see a spider I keep my mouth shut and have adopted a live-and-let-live attitude. Myself and the spiders have learnt to...

    Banned dogs - thoughts

This was on the radio only this morning. Numbers were given but I can't recall them. But attacks by XL Bullys has risen over the last two years. In brief, the number of attacks by XL Bullys is more than the number of attacks by all other dog breeds combined. So not a media phenomenon, no. EDIT...

    Banned dogs - thoughts

Although I wouldn't push for a ban per se, neither would I oppose one. As highlighted above, you could end up banning all dogs that way since all dogs are capable of attacking. Instead, I go back to my original idea. - Firstly, a background check on the owner. - Secondly, you are only allowed a...

    Banned dogs - thoughts

Not at all. What I would say is, that you can't have one that is even 1%. Why would you want such an aggressive and intimidating looking animal? And for all those who are about to say, 'we have/had one and it was the kindest, gentlest, animal you can imagine' then give it a break. If you want an...

    Banned dogs - thoughts

In general, I am sick and tired of dog owners. Sorry, but I am. Have been for a long time, not just recently. I am fed up that when out and about I turn a corner in a path, there's someone's dog and it starts barking and jumping up and then I have to tolerate the owner saying, 'Sorry, he's just...

    Banned dogs - thoughts

There's news reports today of another person who has been attacked, and died, by a pair of XL Bullys. Whether you like it or not, whether it's right or not, expect them to be banned in 5...4...3... Sorry, but I'm not convinced by the defence, 'It's not the X* that kills people it's the owner.'...

    Where are the butterflies?

There's been a noticeable increase in Red Admirals across the country. A couple of weeks ago I read something that said the increase is due to the abnormally high temperatures on mainland Europe as the Red Admirals become another climate migrant trying to escape the hot weather.

    Banned dogs - thoughts

Yes, true enough. But not as much as if any Tom, Dick, or Harry could have one. I think it's fair to say that it is considerably easier to secrete a handgun on oneself that it would be to secrete a XL Bully, wouldn't you think? Anyway, to buy a gun you have to produce your licence. Ditto for...

One possibility (and it is just a possibility, which I'm sure has got holes, etc). To own a gun you need to apply and have a background check. Dogs, self-evidently, can also cause deaths. Just like a gun. So, to own a dog, requires a background check, and anyone with suitable offences (I don't...

    Banned dogs - thoughts

Owning an animal is a privilege not a right. And being able to take your dog (any dog) outside for a walk in public is a privilege not a right. If you do not have a garden (or land) big enough to exercise your animal then you should either get a smaller animal or have none at all. It's that simple.

Warm and Wet (but not in a good way)

FAME! I'm gonna live forever... No, just no. Too many early 80s bad memories of people wearing leg warmers. Now, is it just me, or is anyone else getting the heebie-jeebies from looking at that picture and wondering just what the full length image actually looks like? Someone pass the mind bleach.
