    Starter catapult for child?

When in the army there was a saying that the only thing you can give a fresh conscript is a piece of railway track, anything else and they'll break it. There was some discussion about the length though, some thought 40 cm some 60 cm, anything shorter and they'll lose it, longer and they'll find...

    A Rethink of Green

Rayon and viscose the same material. There are several ways to regenerate cellulose to fibers and the best of them are closed processes. Some of these can use old T shirts as partial material feed.

    A Rethink of Green

Yup, look at lake Aral. or what is left of it. It vanished because of irrigation for cotton. A small part of it still remains and apparently is even slightly enlarging. The other problem is the amount of pesticides used in the growing, cotton fields are not healthy places.

    A Rethink of Green

I have not really studied the matter but have read several articles that claim hemp to be the greenest textile fiber. Not quite comparable to cotton but to linen easily. Nettle (several species) is not too bad either. Then there is the technological way of cellulose fibers that probably would...

    Non-military camouflage?

I have seen some plant dyed t shirts possibly made with some kind of batik proces. Or maybe they were the monday morning third grade products. Anyway the look was green-brown camo. By human eye quite good too.

    Non-military camouflage?

Most detergents also contain surfactants that tend to destroy water repellancy treatments. So they make you visible in UV and miserably wet.

    Using the loaf

If one wants to avoid soot when burning birch just take all the bark off, a lot less soot follows. Somewhat similar strategy for pine, just avoid the resinous parts.

    Spearhead.

WP gives the weight of a roman Pilum as 1 - 2.5 kg so it looks lijke throwing your spear is just a matter of practice in historical context. ;)

    Petrol - stabilising

I have used a stabilizer for winter storage mostly on E5 as that seems to fare better. Max storage time has been about 10 months so not really an endurance test. No problems so far all engines have started and run well.

What is an every day carry really when you get down to it?

Tools that have "saved" (immediate help or fast repairs) the day. SAK and some Leatherman, at the cottage always a knife too. Some medication most of the time and often Micropore.

    Crossbow ban consultation

Looks like you'll be the test ground for the US saying "if guns are outlawed only outlaws'll have guns". Or the other alternative of outlaws just using cruder and/or older weapons. Either way does not sound like fun.

    Sawdust Briquettes

That depends, here the moisture can be down to 14% very much depending on conditions, getting under 20% is not hard.

Silver Anodised Kettle leaving blue-grey residue all over my hands

Something does not quite add up; degreasing is done before anodizing and the oxide layer would not survive the manufacturing process. Often after anodizing the oxide layer is closed by a hot water wash, that closes most of the pores so it does not take in dirt. An alternative would be using...
