    Armchair Bushcraft

I'm very fortunate to still be physically fit, although it now takes more work to keep it so. These days I have little interest in my modern kit, if I sleep out I'm usually wrapped in wool blankets and a plash palatka, and it'll just be an overnight as I have to get back to feed the cat. All...

    Alexanders ID?

The ones I tried were pretty bitter. I may have to give them another go.

    Alexanders ID?

Looks like it. Honestly, not my favourite forageable. At this time of year I stick to cleavers, nettles and chickweed. But give them a try, you might like them.

    corona virus projects any one?

I'm now off work, so I've time to tackle a few projects that have been on the back burner for a while. I made my first knife in years, the handle is oiled so I'll let that dry for a week or two then play with it a little before I make a sheath (I hate doing leather work, so unless it becomes a...

    Exercise in covid-19 lockdown

Suspension trainers are excellent for a full body workout. Look at TRX but there are cheaper alternatives out there. At the moment you can still run, cycle or walk.

    Canvas packs?

You need to let the weight sit on your hips and lean into the shoulderstraps. You don't want to try and cinch the straps tight to pull the pack into your body like a modern design or you'll be pulling the weight up off your hips into your shoulders. It's really nice in summer as it creates...

What do you want to Buy?

If we're separating what I wish I could buy from what I want to buy, well, I wish I could buy my own forested mountain, with maybe a small lake. But what I want to buy is a canvas bell tent. Without the forested mountain, I don't have anywhere to pitch it though :( .

What would you forage in your local area?

I can get a lot of what's already been mentioned and can add alexanders to the list. Pretty much every verge is full of them.

    Canvas packs?

I know what you mean but I got my super grade telemark only a year or so ago, so they do turn up now and then. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the Savotta.

    Canvas packs?

I don't think you will. Surplus and outdoors have the canvas telemarks in stock but only grade 2. That's where I scored mind from although I snagged a super grade one linky https://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/camping-equipment/rucksacks-bags/norwegian-vintage-rucksack-vintage-1082205.html

    Canvas packs?

The Norwegian telemark pack might be a good option then, a little smaller than the Savottas but really comfy. It's getting tricky to find grade 1 packs these days but if you hunt around they can still be had.

    Canvas packs?

I like the 323 but it's deceptively large, probably 50 litres, and I wish the shoulder straps were a little wider. But provided you don't overload it it's comfortable enough. I usually use it for winter overnighters when I'm carrying bulky but not heavy gear. Build quality is top notch. The...

    Low Budget Full Tang Knife?

You have to think in terms of industrial production. A mora companion, once you have done the initial tooling, is very cheap to produce. The whole process is done with very little manpower, with very little wastage with reliable and consistent results in the minimum of stages. Blade blank...

    Tactical Tracking Trail

Take a dump in the woods. See how it and the toilet paper deteriorates. Create your own senario. Your target camps in the woods, creates a simple shelter, builds a fire to cook some food and throws the leftovers away. Then see how all the sign fades.

    An interesting pack

The pack turned up today and it seems to be unissued. A few rust spots on some of the buckles but all the leather is in great condition. With the bag removed the frame and harness are pretty light. Now to work out the best way to attach the Italian mountain pack to it.

    For the Skrama fans

So it looks like the terava line is being reorganised by blade length and the one handed skrama is 200mm, so 40mm shorter than the standard version. https://www.varusteleka.com/en/group/coming-soon/2262
