BE-X FronTier One Rugged Reflective Bivy Tarp, or, a budget Jerven Exclusive

Cheers I didn't realise they'd started a new company. I'll have a look at that. What I can't get over with the Be-X stuff is the price, it's ludicrously cheap, the cynic in me doubts the quality for that price, I'm tempted to buy the smaller of the tents though to have a look at. Ideal as a tarp...

BE-X FronTier One Rugged Reflective Bivy Tarp, or, a budget Jerven Exclusive

Thanks for that. Although the Frontier isn't for me I might have just found a replacement for my Shangri-La 3 in either this or this.

    BCUK Updates

Dear all We're going to be posting in the main forums soon about some future updates that we're currently in the process of setting up for BushcraftUK. BCUK is currently running on a system called vBulletin which is rapidly becoming outdated, unfortunately recent version of VB are not fit for...

    Rucksack Recommendations

Funny I was just about to recommend the Exos, lightest and by far the best bag I've ever owned. Works well for day trips or a few days away quite comfortably. There is a thin frame to keep it off of your back. There is a review in the front section I wrote a few years ago.

    Paramo Losing The Plot?

Used to have a Mountain Equipment Ogre Jacket which at the time was one of the best Goretex jackets you could buy. Trouble I found is that it didn't let sweat out fast enough and I had as much water on the inside of the jacket as the outside, got very cold that day. Switched to Paramo and I've...

    Paramo Losing The Plot?

Haven't tried the Aspira or the Mountain Vent but the Velez Adventure is fantastic.

    Lightweight summer boots

I love my Saloman 4Ds, since ditching my heavier Meindl's I rarely suffer from blisters any more. To be fair though in most conditions and even in the hills now I'll often wear fell running shoes instead, unless I'm going to be playing around on Scree or doing really technical work I've not...

    The sleeping bag minefield

I'm another one for down, to be honest I've not seen a synthetic that comes close in terms of weight to warmth ratio. My wife and I have both got PHD bags (bought on their sales) and they really are excellent but then they're also seriously pricey for their top end bags.

    Barefoot shoes/boots

Not the Five Fingers yet, mainly due to price. I have a couple of pairs of Vivobarefoots, again Gobi or Ra for work, I've also got a set of their trail shoes for the woods. I also quite like Inov-8s although most of them are not 0 drop so can't be considered barefoot but very flexible. I also...

    car kettle ideas

I actually have one of those knocking around somewhere. To be honest I'm with the others I'll take a small meths burner stove (Caldera Cone), a gas camping stove or my Ghillie Kettle. Boils much faster the car kettles and can heat a decent amount of water (my thermal mug holds 750ml).

    Rope storage and carry

ML's often carry a smaller (8mm) rope as a confidence rope. What I usually do (as suggested above) is to have a small rope bag which can go in the top of my day bag and you literally just feed the rope in in a similar way to throw ropes. The benefit of this is that you can have the loose end...

    Sleeping bags?

The Alpkit sleeping bags are really very good for the money and I'd thoroughly recommend them. I'm currently using a PHD Minim 300 for most of the year round, often with a silk liner. PHD are expensive though (and the prices keep going up) so if you're going that way wait until their Biannual...

Gor tex lined boots advice wanted

I've used Goretex and non Goretex boots for years and generally only buy Goretex for walking in. My walking shoes are non Goretex as water often goes over the top and I want them to dry quicker but I find with boots and gaitors I don't get the same problem and generally want to stop the water...

    Let's see your BBQ setup

I use a Weber kettle BBQ which I really find excellent, although I love the grill on a tripod over a fire. Has anyone watched the youtube videos by the BBQ Pit Boys, they take BBQing to a whole new level although I'm pretty sure I can feel my arteries filling just by watching them...
