is there something strangely therapeutic about walking in the woods at night in torrential rain wearing decent kit and knowing you're completely dry?
Just got back in from a nice walk with the dog and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I think a lot of it comes down to what you're going to use it for. I stopped carrying the SAK because I had the Wave but frequently begrudge the weight of it so it's normally around the house rather than in use. Saying that I always goes with when on the motorbike or when cycling and get's used...
I really like my Wave. If you're going lighter weight that are other alternatives but if that's not an issue they are useful. Leatherman's warranty is also excellent. Sent a pair back a few year ago as mine had various screwdriver bits etc broken. I had a reply back that they weren't making mine...
So 17 voters. According to Tristan Gooley's website, http://www.naturalnavigator.com/books-and-library, he has published the following books:
- How to read water
- The walker's guide to outdoor clues and signs
- The lost art of reading nature's signs
- The natural navigator
- How to connect with...

Some of it will be used for that. My friend often takes her scouts there and that will be one of the projects. It's a big tree so I'm looking forward to seeing the different uses we can come up with.
A friend of mine had some woodland in the New Forest. They felled an ash tree the other day and found it to be completely hollow all the way up. It looks like some Ivy has grown up through the middle and then rotted out leaving a holly up the length of the tree. I'm going to nab a few sections...
Consider throwing a silk liner into your bag. Packs down to about the size of an apple and I find it adds almost another season to the bag. Always have mine in there.

Good luck.
Just seen this after another member commented on a thread that the founder of GoLite has now created Mytrailco. If this is similar to the original GoLite Jam it's a really good back. I think I still prefer the Osprey Exos but I've got my old Jam knocking around somewhere and still dust it off...
