    3x3 tarp

You see I have to agree with Paul Kirtley on this one, there is Bushcraft, and then there is kit. Bushcraft is about knowledge and skills that allow you to take less. The whole leather and Canvas and wool blankets is more about so called "Traditional camping". You can do bushcraft with a...

    3x3 tarp

Yep. One of the reasons I don't use a DD 3x3 tarp is that it's just TOO heavy. My tarp is 200g, It's not quite 3x3, but it's big enough for me. J

    Primus Omnilite pump issues

Twice now the pump on my Primus omnilite Ti has developed an issue. The leather pump cup seems to come out of alignment and stops building up pressure. unscrewing the plunger assembly, and relocating the pump cup seems to do the trick, but it's happened twice now and I'm concerned it may...

    anyone tried the Steripen

Don't forget to brush teeth, wash dishes, etc... using bottled water. If I was going on such a trip, I'd take my sawyer filter, and a party pack of oasis puri tabs. Filter and then treat. But that's me. J

What do you wish you had known?

Insects can make your trip hell. Take good repellent, a mossie head net is worth it's weight in gold, and have some anti histamines for any that get through. J

    Perfect Expedition Tent?

I think Wayne wants it to be as free standing as possible without pegs for when camping on rocky outcrops near Canadian rivers/lakes. The Vaude Mark tents do need a peg at each end for the porch, but you could just use a bolder, and if it's not too stormy, just leave it unpegged.

    Perfect Expedition Tent?

Doesn't meet the original requirement regarding free standing. J

    Perfect Expedition Tent?

I believe you can pitch the outer separate on the Vaude tents, but often it's just easier to pitch inner/outer together. J

    Perfect Expedition Tent?

Some thoughts on tent design: - Any tent that is inner first is not a good idea. You're going to end up soaking the inner if you have to put the tent up in heavy rain. Why such a design is so pervasive still amazes me. - Tents that require you to thread a pole through a sleeve always struck me...

    Perfect Expedition Tent?

I would look at the Vaude Mark series of tents, not the lightest on the market, but they erect really fast, pitch inner/outer together, are free standing, and extremely weather proof. Excellent tents. J

    Underwear.....

It's hard to be certain what was worn, by who, and when. A lot of it is speculation. Some people find underwear more comfortable than no underwear, some don't. Some find it a faff, some don't. Without a time machine, none of us can be certain. History is an interesting and important...

    Underwear.....

Very different. The climate ain't the same across Europe, fashion wasn't the same across Europe, not to mention how it changed within the classes. It's a question asked of many living historians who specialise in the 18th and 19th century, and there's not much info out there on how one goes...

    Campervan living

One curious question, those living in vehicles, how do you go about finding somewhere to park up? Round here there has been a crackdown on police on HGV's parking up in laybys and at the side of the road. I'm guessing a law that applies to them also applies to a 3.5t camper? J

    Underwear.....

It depends a lot on how far back you go. Remember we have at times been subjected to the point where a woman may easily be wearing a shift, a corset, bloomers, several petticoats, an over skirt, and underskirt and stockings... Or a crinoline, or a bustle, or panniers... I have on my sewing...

    Underwear.....

Hygiene is the main reason. It's easier to change a pair of underwear, than it is to change the outer trousers. Means that you can wash the trousers less (inflicting less wear upon them in the process), while allowing you to stay clean. J

    Willow Bark Cordage

Am hoping to have a play with making willow bark cordage, I have a couple of questions tho. In one of Uncle Rays videos he specifically uses a trunk slightly larger than his wrist. Is there a reason other than yield vs wound to the tree? If I use a smaller piece do I get a thicker bark...

    Considering living off the grid.

For many years mandatory schooling in the UK ended at 16. Having started school age 5 (or 4 in some cases where birthdays are in August). Many kids go onto college or sixth form. The former tends to be vocational skill courses (plumbing, electrician etc...) while the later tends to be more...
