if the hole is on the top side and above the waist it wont make much difference as this area is normally covered by your tarp. A bit of tape will stop it ripping futher
if is on a part of the bivvy you lie on then you may want to be more careful about making it waterproof
I did see an artic expedition try to save weight. One thing they did was cut unused items from there kit
ie washing labels and spare buttons unused draw strings and extra flaps of over hang material ect
Ditch the GPS for a (cut down) map and compass. the extra skill required to navigate...
the sad part is I threw away and old gazebo only a few weeks ago I could of made up some custom length poles from the legs if I had only thought of it sooner
if it is for a place to sleep then finding a good spot and taking the time to give yourself a good set up is normally not to difficult.
what I find harder is a quick stop in foul weather when you want a shelter just for a meal stop
As with a lot of bushcraft the greater the need the more...
I often find myself on the hills as opposed to woodland so I need some form of pole to create a tarp selter
I often see walking poles used for this but are there any other options. I was thinking something like this...
well reading further the explanation does mention open fires and some of the sites do have fire pits. but using the search is not as straight forward as I would like. I may just have been unlucky but this first couple of sites I looked into did not allow open fires. now I have widened my search...

can anyone recommend any camp sites that allow open fires in or near to Pembrokeshire
I am planning to take a tent and my young son camping. I would love to find a site that wont mind some bushcraft type activates like open fire cooking. It does not need to have a lot in the way of facilities...

Well I have a petzl tactikka head torch that has a 5 lumen low mode that will run for 100 hours. but this is still a little bright for what I had in mind. but a small piece of paper and some tape make a good filter over the red half of the light and the result one free low level light :)
but I...
