hammock underquilt/ diy hammock sock opinions

Try and see. The only thing about the space blanket is it sounds like a huge crisp packet and every time you move that could get annoying. Something like a jungle bag with two cords running the length of the bag inside on either side might be simple and effective, but I don't think it will keep...

hammock underquilt/ diy hammock sock opinions

I have been thnking over these issue too. I made myself a prototype underquilt earlier this year from a US army poncho line (you are right, they are basically hammock shaped things you hang on the outside). It was ok but ultimately not warm enough, being quite thin material even when doubled up...

    Advice needed

I think exped do something similar might be more available here. I got my eno stuff direct from them, well worth it I'd say. Simply on the size/weight/ease of set up, I don't think they can be best

    Advice needed

Just throwing in another hammock option, eagle nest outfitters (ENO), great lightweight hammocks packs ridiculously small and if you get the atlas straps, very very easy to put up (like the whole thing in one or two mins). They are a bit pricey as you can only get them from US or sometimes on...

Birthday present - Tarp coming. knowledge, experience and advice needed.

If you are not using a hammock then I would say a 3x3 tarp is too big. You just need a decent basha, highlander do a good one (the british army ones are good but heavy). Any mat will do for sleeping but if you fancy splashing out (or someon in your family does) you can't beat the thermarest...

I'm looking for a tough over shirt? Ideas?

Something you might consider, especially on colder days, is a us army cold weather wool shirt. You can pick them up on eBay for 15/20 quid. It's a great thick woolen shirt (almost a jacket) button up front and two chest pockets, olive green. Good as an outer layer or mid layer. Cheap alternative...

    Dutch army arctic sleeping bag?

Does anyone have any experience with this sleeping bag (the big ones with studs round the zip and hood to attach a bivi)? Just wondered how they compare to the british 95 bag in terms of weight/warmth etc. also if anyone has the bivi that goes with it how do you find that?? Thinking of getting both.

Your opinions on the best army parka/cold weather jacket?

Nothing is wrong with them. I have a dutch army parker which is very similar to the German, so that's why I have discounted that. The Swedish parka only has two outer pocket, as does the US one. Also I find with the US one that the outer material is not as thick as the dutch/german coats.

Your opinions on the best army parka/cold weather jacket?

Just wondering if there are any options I haven't considered yet. I have a Dutch army parka that I gave had for 9 years now but I'm looking for something else. The Dutch do a combat smock with a fur and gortex lining that you button in, for a short time they were produced in olive green (I have...

Fjallraven - Worth the money or not?

I know it's not really what we are talking about but I just bought a Fjallraven Greenland winter jacket in the sales (not that it was all that cheap), and so far have mixed feelings about it. The zip is rubbish, it could do with a waist sinch cord (though that might just be a fetish of mine)...

The new MTP british army combats are pretty good for the milder times of year. Good pockets, strong but light and dry super quick.

Snugpak Softie 12 Osprey VS Carinthia Defence 4 ??

I prefer the 95 arctic bag. It's warm, has a central zip and the hood is much more comfortable than the small face hole in the carinthia IMHO. I would give some thought to getting one of these as a good one can be picked up for 30/40 quid.

    Wax vs Nikwax advice please

Update: Thanks for your reply. I went ahead and waxed my smock with a block of fjallraven Greenland wax. I have applied two thin/medium coats, using a hair dryer to melt the wax in after each coat. I am very pleased with the results. There is very little change in the colour, maybe a fraction...

    Wax vs Nikwax advice please

I have just bought a bar fjallraven wax and used it on a hat of mine with, I think, very positive results. Before I go ahead and wax everything I own I just wondered if people had experience of waxing previously unwaxed jackets and how they rated them afterwards (I'm considering waxing my green...

Smocks. I know I know but...

Overhead smocks, everybody loves them because they look cool. I love them too but, at the risk of committing an outrage, I'm i the only one who doesn't actually find them all that practical? For example? I have a old olive cadet smock, the overhead type, and I love it on an aesthetic level, but...
