Try using walnut oil before adding any liquids. A good few soakings so it’s all in there. Think of wood like little straws. The oil will fill these straws and prevent the water from getting in and expanding and shrinking the wood.

    Tree Disease getting close

Not in person. I’ve seen guidance images and apparently it’s around my area already. It shows it’s self as a sort of black legion coming out of damage on the trees. (Douglas for and western hemlock) being most effected. I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t already in the Dean without being...

    Seax

After a long time break from forging anything due to personal circumstances. I finally got round to finishing a seax I started in 2016. I decided to try Antler as a guard going into Iroko wood for the rest of the handle.

    Coppicing advice

My personal choice with birch is to leave it as a more ornamental tree. The mature wood is great for burning and carving. You can coppice it and it does respond well when it’s young. Them spacing sound very close. My hard woods (not for commercial use) are planted at 3.5m definitely no closer...

The LandRover itch.. Do I scratch it?

The jag engine still suffers the issue as a 3L. The issue being that it was designed from smaller lighter vehicles the torque that’s demanded by the auto box in a D3 D4 and the newer L405 Range Rover stresses the crank to the point of failure. I’ve also had jag XF with this engine and it was...

The LandRover itch.. Do I scratch it?

I loved my TD5 disco. As long as you keep up with maintaining them there really isn’t that many issues with the TD5. The internet is full of horror stories but people are not going to be posting about the good times in general. Unfortunately mine got written off in work I then went for a disco 3...
