Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

I think it depends on where you are. Using a machete or parang (i.e. hand tools rather than petrol-powered tools) to manage underbrush in private woodland/scrub in an ecologically sensitive part of remote mid-Wales or Scotland, I doubt you'd provoke any adverse interest, especially if you are...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Feels like an excuse for further down the line "well you had chance to hand it in and get compensation but didn't." I also noticed @Broch that Dyfed-Powys police doesn't have a designated hand-in point, so clearly that part of Wales either (1) has a genuine Zombie problem or (2) doesn't expect...

Withdrawn POST OFFICE DESTROYING KNIFE - THE END !!!

I suspect that the carriage of items requiring "18 or over" confirmation has been tightened up across the board in RM. If you purchase a box of wine/beer or a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, it's the same routine, always has been- just that these usually come via courier as they are bigger...

Withdrawn Gerber BMF Survival Knife - yet another price drop - unused, never sharpened - £130 + £20 delivery

Yes, there is a facility. As per the thread I referenced, RM require that an "18 verified" service is used. (There is some debate whether this is only available to senders with a business account). So, if you buy an axe from Wood Tools (as I did last week), it will come the next day by RM in an...

Withdrawn Gerber BMF Survival Knife - yet another price drop - unused, never sharpened - £130 + £20 delivery

@DB-71 : if you look on other threads you will see that just "wrapping it up and sending it RM" is not a great idea. @Mervg just got caught out with a knife that was very much NOT a combat knife, RM seized it and threatening to destroy it. Thread link...

    What did you buy today?

An axe. I treated myself to a Wood Tools Sheffield axe. It's all made in UK including the basic forging. That matters to me. First impressions are very good...... GC

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Wouldn't worry too much. It's election time, he's a politician, he opens his mouth and soundbites come out. It's the nature of the beast. However in practical terms, legislation of any sort needs parliamentary time and resource, and so its way way easier for politicians (of any stripe) to say a...

    Weather to come.......

Just had a thought. Are you using any compost or manure brought in from outside your garden? There's some types of herbicide are long lasting and survive composting. Also if animals eat the treated grass, their manure contains it. Twisted stunted courgettes sounds rather like herbicide damage...

    Weather to come.......

I am somewhat surprised @Woody girl , in West Wales its been similar weather but this year LOADS of sparrows at the new place, nests in the usual places in workshop plus they have taken up residence in the swift boxes we installed, the first brood raised and flown already, and a second brood...

Portable Power Stations & Solar Generators

It wasn't too difficult. EVERYTHING in the property needs replacing- every electrical component from the mains incoming (including the consumer unit) onwards. It's a full rewire. So having worked through what we want and where, we then walked around with the electrician and discussed with him...

Portable Power Stations & Solar Generators

That's a useful review. The place we're renovating, we uncovered the old septic tank last week. It's definitely pre-2010, in fact I think it's 1960's (or earlier) vintage, albeit it was properly registered by the previous owner of the property :nailbiting:. The place has been unoccupied for...

    What did you buy today?

They are quite useful, easy to clean, quick to make coffee and the travel one all packs into a mug. The coffee doesn't soak too long so don't get a bitter taste. That said, to get the best out of them, you need quite a fine grind. GC

    Weather to come.......

Had my spring/autumn top on today. Been wet and windy and only about 13 C. According to my photo logs, this time last year was double the temp, dry, sunny and calm. But since last July it's rained most days in the west. The winter was warm* and wet, but late spring hasn't been warm. The wet...

    Wood Spirit Tutorial

Also note...... @Kepis is being very modest, as he has not mentioned that he has published 3 books (2 of them about whittling things), available from Amazon. Mods- if both you and @Kepis are agreed, I can post links. GC

    EDC - Money

Couldn't agree more. If we ever got to that situation then (1) food and fuel/energy sources and things to help obtain them would be the main "currency" at least in the short term and (2) the government in power at the time would I suspect confiscate gold (probably with the issue of a...

    EDC - Money

A resilient lifestyle in a community where people do, grow and make stuff. Have some skills to make or do things that others will barter for. There's still a barter economy below the surface in some areas, and I suspect that will deepen and grow if cash gets even more difficult to obtain and...

Sold Combo Clear-Out - Recycled Firehose Multitool Pouch, Key-pers/Belt Loops & Leather Mermaids Purse (Medicine) Pouch

Thanks for that, unfortunately I'll have to pass on this then because the tool I want to use it for (a Flexicut whittling jack) is 110mm long and I'd need 115mm space to get the top closed comfortably. GC
