Mine are five piece rather than telescopic. One of them has alternative tips that give different speeds when casting. Even though it’s a quality make I would describe it as barely adequate. The good side of it is that it will fit in my inside jacket pocket.

If it was me I would be looking at buying a few rods on the second hand market rather than trying to find a one size fits all solution. You can pick up a really good beach caster as a starting point cheaply enough

I find wax is better than oil in this way as well because every little bit of dust and crap in the air seems to gravitate to the oily surface and build up whereas lubricant wax isn’t sticky
