    Poor quality boots

I have not bought a new pair of boots in a very long time, I just hunt around the charity shops and if necessary get them resoled.

    Plastic free camping

Plastic is insidious, it gets everywhere. It might be the buttons on your wool coat, the lenses of your spectacles, the washer on the top of your steel bottle. I guess when it comes to groundsheets and sleeping mats I give in. You could have the old rubberized mackintosh groundsheet, and a straw...

Handkerchief or at least a pack of tissues.

    The wrong trousers.

What is this thing you call an Iron? Surely you stick em under the mattress to get a crease :)

    The wrong trousers.

I went into a certain army surplus store in Kidderminster today as I was passing through, hoping to pick up a pair of British Army barrack dress trousers as I find them very good in this weather. None to be found, at least not in my size, the only pair in stock had ridiculously short legs...

    HEXAMINE. PLEASE READ!

I suppose eventually the supply will dry up. Best thing to do is either use up what you have, or keep a couple of blocks for a dire emergency. How long before Fire Dragon is banned because some folks are using it to make squeeze?

    guy line tensioners

I discovered these at Joe Brown's in Capel Curig some time ago, they do for me. https://www.robens.de/en-gb/shop/outdoor-accessories/guyline-alloy-adjuster

Traditional puukkos thicker than you think

From what I can see, laying down the dimensions of a puuko is like trying to define a billhook, there are so many variants but you know one when you see one.

Bushcraft tools that could be classed as weapons?

I have any number of sticks in my hallway, because you have to keep them somewhere, however the reality is there is no room to swing a cat in there, let alone a baseball bat. I did once need to forcibly expel an intruder who tried to push his way through the gap in the open door, all it took was...

    Bone and Antler needles

Yes I have few pieces of antler lying around. I guess it makes sense to make the hole first before you thin it down.

    Legality and Perception of EDC's

I never worry about carrying an SAK or if not that a small traditional gentleman's pocket knife, these are easily recognisable by most of the population. I would be very wary of carrying a tactical looking knife even if it were designed to be technically within the law simply because it sends...

    EDC Pens?

I have a big brass Chinese knock off of a tactical pen. I doubt I could actually break any windows with it, but it is big and bulky so I am not likely to lose it or break it.

Any instructions anywhere as to how to go about making one, I'd like to have a go.

    New Zippo Insert

I once bought a Zippo Butane insert but had to return it, no way would it produce a flame, even when I followed the various remedies suggested on the internet, simply not fit for purpose. I currently have a Zorro insert which lasts a lot longer than the original Zippo before the fuel evaporates.

sealing a stacked leather knife handle ?

I have not used stacked leather as such but I have used leather in layers for scales and I have used evostik for the purpose which is my goto adhesive for leather.

Why I hate (most) modern torches

I think it should be against the law for torches to be made with a black casing. Guaranteed to be unfindable in low light when you most need it. I keep a big old fashioned D cell hand torch in the car. I can remember the day when you would use a pifco or ever ready bicycle lantern for camping...

Bushcraft tools that could be classed as weapons?

Firstly it is not the coppers interpretation that decides what is a weapon, it merely decides what they suspect to be a weapon and it has to be in the public interest to pursue a prosecution. As I am sure the black belt barrister will remind you on you tube, in order to secure a conviction it...

    Ventile laundering.

Curiously enought I just laundered my Keela Ventile smock today. It says on the label dry cleaning only, can't see why unless it has something to do with the lining. I just used persil wool and silk liquid and the handwash setting on my washing machine with no spin and hung it up on a...

Government consultation on banning large knives and machetes

It is all to do with psychology, perception, and what Saussure called signification. Machete conjures up images of Zombies, lawless Latin Americans and Carribeans whereas the good old Bill Hook, is cry God for Harry, England and St George. Bayonets and Fairbairn Sykes knives which are actual...
