    Avoiding rural theft

It is round here - but I must admit some people don't take even basic precautions!

    Avoiding rural theft

Our video this week looks at one of the darker sides of smallholding - equipment theft. It's undeniable that of course you are safer in rural areas than towns and cities, but one aspect of smallholding & farming is that expensive equipment can be stored on site & very vulnerable to...

    Sonic Repellent

I'm certain that they don't (and I took the time to get rodent control qualifications). Shawn Woods agrees

Battery generators - what & why?

That's a very impressive setup. I confess that as good as the Jackery marketing is, solar panels that aren't waterproof was a big red flag for me. Bang for you buck the Ecoflow seems to be the current best bet. I fitted a propane kit to our Honda gennie for the very reasons of fuel life ;)

Battery generators - what & why?

It's all about the recharge cycles. Old lead acid was 300 to 500 times if never discharged more than 50%. LiFePO4 can be cycled 3,000 to 5,000 times and deep discharge doesn't damage them. They are a game changer

Battery generators - what & why?

Obviously the Tesla is the Gold standard but there are several quality options now - including EcoFlow!

Battery generators - what & why?

I have a smaller power station too (different brand). As you say, great for running phones, tablets & laptops but insufficient storage & inverter power for larger appliances.

Battery generators - what & why?

I believe they are just old stock as there is a newer model.now. Mine still had all the protective films in place. It has exactly the same warranty as a normal item. I know two other people with them and both are as pleased as I am

Battery generators - what & why?

I have one that stores 2kWh and can deliver 3000W. It's got it's own app and is, frankly, a game changer I can run my mains electric chainsaw, log splitter etc. on it. We have four freezers and it can run them all in a power cut It acts as an uninterruptible power supply for my incubators...

Another solar power thread - advice & opinions requested!

The old FiT is several orders of magnitude better. Never change. Payback on batteries is slow but it may not be necessary to change tariff. With modern systems like the Tesla powerwall you can charge during the day, release at night AND have backup power in powercuts. With the panels are they...

    Simple Solar Power

Hi Steve! I could but they aren't necessarily the best choices. We plan to do future videos on selecting & sizing components, but if it helps, let me know what you want to achieve & I can point to components that are suitable

    Simple Solar Power

This weeks video is a simple overview of solar power. It's the first in a new series and part of our "self sufficiency" drive (we've covered water, heating, cooking and lighting before) I know many people here are solar savvy but if anyone wants a simple introduction into how a solar system...

Nice report Chris. We love Lincolnshire, the scenery & history are spectacular but it's remarkably unspoiled & still real working countryside not commuter belt

Fiskars tools - are they plastic tat?

I love traditional tools - wood, steel & leather talk to me. This week though we've filmed my review of Fiskars tools, modern with lots of plastic. Are they any good?
