    Beekeeping for beginners

Yup. With Fiona it was a dangerous degree & I decided it was too risky. We breed chickens now. Much easier & cheaper too!

    Beekeeping for beginners

We have kept bees but don't since Fiona became highly allergic. Propolis is great for home made varnish but sells really well because of its purported health benefits. We fid it just for self sufficient reasons, its not a viable way to make money on a small scale

All poultry subject to compulsory registration

Totally agree. It also completely ignores the full review of bio security & farm inspection that the government commissioned

How we gave up the TV Licence - Hassle Free

We gave up the licence and stopped paying full price for streaming services (did you watch the video, we talked a lot about this )? More than two thirds of the UK have streaming AND a TV licence and many have SKY as well. At one point SKY were charging an elderly relative over £70 a...

How we gave up the TV Licence - Hassle Free

Part of homesteading for us is using our money wisely because we don't have much actual income to pay external expenses About 5 years ago, we gave up the Television Licence because it just wasn't value for us. Since then we've saved over £1,000, got access to fantastic TV for much less money...

All poultry subject to compulsory registration

An announcement has been made that all birds (other than caged pets that aren't allowed out) will be subject to compulsory registration in England, Wales and Scotland. This includes poultry, birds of prey etc. Here's what we know so far

    Sold Stu Mitchell bushcrafter

You won't regret it. In my opinion Stu is the finest knife maker there is.

    Be a real man!

I don't think there's anything wrong with having roles. Fiona and I certainly do. There are tasks that she normally does and tasks that I normally do. Some of that is based on physical attributes (I'm stronger so moving tree trunks is easier for me). Some is based on aptitude or developed skill...

    Be a real man!

I suspect that there aren't too many bushcrafters that are like that - they would starve in the woods, but there's still a few who seem to take pride in their incompetence. It's weird isn't it? Cast is getting cut off in 10 days for more X-rays & images. We'll know more then.

    Be a real man!

When we talked about Fiona's injuries recently we were quite surprised at the number of comments that we received saying that "my husband couldn't cope if I was laid up". When you think about living on a smallholding (or farm / homestead), it's a pretty poor chap who can't carry out all the...
