    Shovels

I never carry one except during winter, and then it is a snow shovel which is standard safety equipment in the winter mountains. Like Swampy Matt said, it is a quick thing to make a digging stick.

    Nanok sleeping bags?

I've used the Grevling a lot, but have to say that I dont like it much, and do not use it a lot anymore. I find that although it should be pretty breathable you will still get condensation on the inside. But compared to the two different types of GoreTex bivi bags that I have tried, I find it a...

    Bushcraft Booze

You can make it from the white "film" covering the berries on juniper "trees" / bush. I've also read somewhere that the white powdery coating found on the trunks of Aspen trees can be processed into some kind of yeast. I think that there is a chapter on this in the "Woodsmoke" book by Richard...

    Bushcraft Booze

A mate of mine at college in South Africa grew up on a farm in the middle of the busveld. He used to collect fruit etc when we had supper at the boarding school. Bananas, pineapples, apples, grapes and oranges hacked with a bushknife (panga) and added to a mixture of water and sugar + a small...

    Bow from Bamboo?

Yep. Do you want to build one of bamboo only or laminated bamboo / wood ? Both will woork nicely. I've made quite a few laminated osage / bamboo bows in the style made popular by Dean Torges. His video is one of the best bowbuilding videos that I have seen, and the Bowyers Edge tool that he...

    Barbour Waxed Coats?

I agree. I haven't got a Barbour model, but a model by a company called House of Hardy. It has a wool lining (not detatcable) and is bl**dy hot ! I don't use it much.

    Winter sleeping kit

Oh by the way. My winter sleeping bag is the old model of Ajungilak Tyin Elite which can be used in even colder temperatures than the current models. A few dealers here in Norway may still have a small stock of the old models if one is lucky like me :o): I've slept comfortable outside in that...

    Winter sleeping kit

:rolmao: reminds me of when a guy in South Africa in the late 80's wanted to remove accumulated and dark particles in a strange pattern on the sides of his WW Microbus. When they opened the inside panels they found some 12 or 16 limpet mines with magnets :yikes: . The particles on the outside of...

    Arctic/cold climates survival

Yep, that is Mr. Dundee ! I saw it again a few weeks ago. A true bushcrafter with the right attitude "You can eat it, but it taste like sh**!" :o): :rolmao:

    Arctic/cold climates survival

Nope, these Jeger soldiers are not the same thing as the SAS. A "Jeger" soldier is just a ranger. The Norwegian equvivelant of the SAS (they train and are/have also been employed together with the SAS - rumor say that they have at times been deployed with the SAS in Northern Ireland) is the...

    Canoe plans

Yep it's very cool, and it only takes about 30 min to put it all together (make that one hour the first few times). Take the bus to somewhere upriver and paddle back home, or take the plane to distant places and paddle the Amazon, the Kavango, Limpopo or the Zambezi :o): I was one lucky guy ...

    Buying woodland ???

Guys, you are all looking at the wrong places :nono: :o): :naughty: How about 6425 acres of this place for 857,066.51 £. Price includes 2 dams, 7 boreholes, 2 houses, outbuildings, excellent road network. Well, perhaps not my first choice, but the area looks nice and has a very righ...

    Canoe plans

I've got this one and rebuild it several times every year :o): I'ts the takedown Ally 16,5' DR modell. A brilliant canoe that will take more rough use than any aluminium canoe that I have seen and paddled to this date. It is a bit slower to paddle than a more rigid canoe, but I'd say its...

    fire drill variation

I've got a book from 1898 on native cultures. In there there is a drawing of two inuits who use the toggle thingy for making fire - one use the toggle while the other add pressure to the bearing block. I've also seen old photos of inuits use the same metod with firesets slightly different than...
