Made this bushy styled knife , just finished it actually and rushed some pics for you lot to oggle !
This knife has been an absolute joy to make.
Blade is 01 steel which has been heat treated.
Thickness of blade is 5mm in the handle and 4mm at the blade spine.
Flat taper grind all the way...
Don,t attempt this above as it will eat the rust first yes but then will go on to etch your blade and fine cutting edge . It's alright if you want to etch your blade slowly and want the aggro of resharpening your knife .
I tried the Autosol on a homemade strop yesterday. It took a good few hours to get the action and angle of the blade just right but it does work a treat and got the blade (which is unfinished) razor sharp. Shaves hair off the ol' arm a treat now.
Cheers all :You_Rock_
Cheers mate , no probs on the HT , the burner is always on the go for something.
I've been playing with the 01 steel and so far not very impressed with the temper lines that I've been getting...............I might be doing something wrong mind but I don't think so.
I've been quenching as you...
Hiya Pockets , very pleased you've managed to join , ask questions , learn loads , but most of all have fun.
Might be an idea to get your mates to join the forum too.
Richie.
That's real nice that mate.
I have a request , please pleeeeease show me how to do a grind like that , I'm having trouble doing anything but a convex grind.
Who's doing the HT mate ?
Have to agree with the above and as said John1102 on BB is a right good fella who'll see you right.
The first grinder you can modify a bit with regards to the platen for grinding up a blade to get a crisp cutting edge and that is affix a retangular piece of steel (as wide as the ginding belt...
Are they german para boots ?
I found the same thing with the older german para boots . don't know about the newer ones mind but have changed over to the british army copies of the lowa boot. Had them a few days and so far are very comfy and not once have I been cold.
For me , I'm wearing...
I heard a story some time ago , that many years ago they used to put the blackthorn stick up a chimney to dry faster and this also helped get that black colour. Never tried it myself.
I find/found blackthorn a very heavy stick so sold mine on.
Also if you dry it out too fast then it'll crack...
Good luck with it , just remember to anneal the steel first , and you have to work around that blooming pivot hole which makes it a bit more difficult.
Would like to see pics when it's done.
If I were you I'd just give it a go , you don't want to be caught out if you do have an electrical outage.
It pays to be prepared and know what to do in a situation like that.
