The old Tilly company gave a lifetime warranty but the company has changed hands and new hats don't have it. I have no idea if they are honouring the old warranties 
If replacement turns out to be a no-no, consider repair with a carefully sewn-on strip to cover that area.
Though, to really add yet more character, close the gaps with a' locked' herringbone stitch.

If you can still read the label it should say guaranteed for life on it, a hat that old would have been made in Canada and would be covered in line with the guarantee. Tilly still offer guarantee on their hats but I believe only on the ones still made in Canada and not the ones made outside.

Ok guys, I did get in touch with Tilly last night after putting this up.They even replied.
Good new it is covered. There is a £20 fee. But I have been given the choice of any hat they do.

T3 Wanderer is nicely distressed from new, mine has got better with age and sports a few holes and wear marks.
May I enquire as to how you washed the hat? I'm asking because I now wash all of my cloth hats in the sink or shower as the machine consistently tore up my hats. I have friends who wash their cloth hats in the dishwasher with pretty good results. My concern is that my method does not include soap appropriate for cloth and I'm wondering if I am really cleaning them or just washing the sweat off.
To be honest my one doesn’t get washed often, the sweat stains are there to stay. Once in a while I bung it in the machine as per…
Ok Folks, the hat has arrived today.
I was given a choise, so I could have gone for anything !
I went for the T3 Wanderer hat in 'evergreen' colour.
I fancied somthing different from my T5 hat.
As for my T5, all they wanted me to do was put a big cross and the date on the inside of the hat in permament marker.
My daughter Tilly is going to see if she can do a repair job on it. So I can use it in the garden.
As for the question on how I washed the T5. I always hand washed in warm water. Seemed to work, the hat lasted over 20 years.
