Hi all.
I’m searching for a new back pack, I’ve had loads over the years but never had one that I really thought was ‘the one’.
I’ve been looking at the Savotta kahakka, either the 15L or maybe the 25L.
I would love to read what you guys think of them for day hikes , one nighters or just a pack to carry general bushcraft kit in.
I don’t do weeks away, so it need not be a massive bag. Something modular when needed to be ?The Savotta kits looks bomb proof, and I’ve watched several YouTube vids.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Direct Action Dragon Egg suits my needs. I won’t list the features but it’s a well thought out pack and carries well.

I have the Savotta Kahakka 25 and reckon that it is the best day pack I've ever owned.

It has clean lines, is not choked with straps or molle and has decently sized pockets where I want them. The two side pockets are brilliant for water bottles or axes or longer bits of wood; the top pocket has enough room for the essentials; the front, zipped pocket is great for maps, note books, credit cards and car keys. That leaves the main compartment, which is big enough for my bushcraft or hillwalking needs, no matter what the season.

Yes, it's pricey but you get an extremely well thought out and made pack for you pennies. Yup, I love mine!

And I have no association with Savotta at all; I'm just a delighted customer and user.

Well, I ordered a Savotta Kahakka 15L and it’s arrived . Must say I’ve only been on one 5 mile walk and loving it so far. Not to big for a day sack, I found it very comfortable. It’s a win for me. Cheers all for your inspiration :)

Hi both, I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on the back system and how comfortable it is for walking.

I really fancy getting the 25l version, it looks like it could be an awesome daypack and even useful for some camping. The thing that is giving me cause for doubt is the back system or lack thereof. I understand why Savotta didn't put any mesh on the back as it's designed for military use and soldiers who likely wear body armour. But I envisage the back panel gets sopping wet with sweat when us civvies use it (especially a big hot sweaty oaf like me!).

Hi,

You're right on all fronts, really! The 25 litre model does not have a 'back system' as such - it is a day pack, after all. However, I have found it very comfortable when packed with the necessaries for an overnighter with a 5 or 6 mile walk-in.

Equally, it is a very comfortable sack when walking. The shoulder and simple waist strap work very well together, with the former spreading the load effectively and the latter holding it all close to the body.

Personally, I wouldn't have bought it if it had had a mesh back. They are the first things to go, they never work as well as one expects and having a sweaty back doesn't really bother me. However, I'm well aware that different folk have other priorities!

I hope that this answers some, if not all, of your questions!

Thanks very much, really appreciate the insight. I think I'm going to go for it. It was between the Kahakka 25 or Jakaari M, but I think the Kahakka is the one.

Either would be good! I have a Jakaari M as well - bought a few years ago - and have enjoyed using it but it is the Kahakka I reach for when I'm off out for any day antics. I hope you enjoy yours.
