You cannot go wrong with a CPM-3V Aurora. It is a little longer than is ideal for game preparation, but that extra length makes it excellent at batoning . The first photo has an Enzo trapper 95 for scale (and my homemade survival knife) My glove size is large and the Aurora fits perfectly. I am...

    Project Axe

A little axe I have been working on for a few weeks. . It's an Elwell 2 3/4 lb head from e-bay. It had a decent amout of corrosion and had already had a botched renovation, so I decided to get creative. The handle is a 24" hickory one with decent grain orientation and lovely colour. Just...

    Bark River Aurora initial thoughts

Update. I spent the weekend at the Woodland Ways Bushcraft School (Friday evening to Sunday midday) and gave the Aurora a bit if a work out. Before I go on, I made some adaptations to the sheath - adding a D ring and a dangler loop made from 25mm webbing - simple sewing job. I also gave it 4...

    Bark River Aurora initial thoughts

The Bark River Aurora isn't cheap. With shipping and import fees I paid..... oh god - how much? Anywho.. The knife feels awesome in the hand. I realise the scales are a bit out there - but I wanted something unusual and I'm not a big fan of natural materials anyway. Out of the box it's a...

I have an Elmax Enzo Trapper (Scandi Zero grind), it's not as hard as you might imagine. It does take longer - but not a lot. I made the kit for under £100. Add that to the fact that they are significantly less likely to get a ding since they are much tougher and it balances out.

Yeah, looks a bit generic for the price. O1 tool steel seems a bit low end tbh. You should be getting a supersteel for that much.

    Mid range bushcraft knife

If you can manage to mix 24 hour epoxy, I recommend an Elmax Enzo trapper 95 kit. I paid £70 for the blade and handle scale material. Bark River style handle, with a supersteel blade.

That's weird - thought I already posted my pics up... This is my self made kydex for my self made knife. Rear plate supports a Tec-Lok that can be rotated for horizontal carry and a 1" webbing dangler. The body has a removable ferrorod loop. There is about 5 feet of 550 PC for emergencies...

To bivvy bag oir not to bivvy bag? - that is the question.

Thx for the replies, I think the army surplus one will suit me fine for adding a season to my 2-3 season bag and keep the wind out whilst I am under the tarp. For the moment weight isn't a big issue. If it becomes one I suspect the best way to go will be a small tent and a better bag.

Here's on I made. Kydex with DCL Combat Loop and Webbing Dangler attached via rear plate, side mounted ferrorod loop and about 5 feet of paracord for emergencies.
