Chest Rigs - How Useful Are They?

Cross body bags don't work for me, I seem to spend a lot of time climbing over or under things or being on the floor and as soon as you bend over most shoulder bags swing out of position. If you are upright the whole time then they are ok. I prefer a daypack and just take it off if I need to get...

    Worst.Job.Ever.

When I was a youth I did a temp job in collage kitchen prepping it after the summer holiday, there was me and 2 other people, first job was a quick inventory of the supplies. I was given 3 freezers 2 were good but number 3 had failed during the break, the meat within was ripe to say the least...

Chest Rigs - How Useful Are They?

I agree there is a ventilation penalty when wearing mine although I don't find it too bad....weather dependent. The chest pack I have is the smaller of the Helikon-Tex Numbat so doesn't cover as much area at the big one so allows more ventilation.

    Wooden Chopping Boards

I was always told to clean a wooden chopping board by running it under very hot water and scrub the surface with a scouring pad then let it dry fully, this is how I've done it for ever with no ill effects. The kids have put wooden chopping boards through the dishwasher before which warped them...

Chest Rigs - How Useful Are They?

I have a Helikon tex Numbat with the small map case inside. The map case forms a little table at chest height which is great for nav checks I like being able to just unzip and check the map and zip up again. Also useful for stashing your phone/GPS so you can do you nav check with everything on...

    Wooden Chopping Boards

I have a bamboo chopping board too, I've often wondered what they use to glue the sections together with and if its one of these dodgy substances. I'm sure I read somewhere that the glues they uses are less than environmentally/health friendly, either way it still does the job.

    Body Warmer?

I like them and find them very good for working outside when its a bit chilly. I have a waxed one with a wool lining, one made form sort of blanket material and a down one that i bought from Survival Aids in Euston when I was a youth.

    Really good budget clothing

Decathlon has some pretty decent kit, I just bought a pair of cargo pants type for 25 quid. They are pretty decent TBH the only negative is 100%cotton but for dry weather they are very good. Decathlon have quite a broad range of clothing and equipment too. I Have a really high quality wool...

Alternative to a sleeveless cotton vest

Cotton is a pretty decent insulator unless it gets wet then you open your self up to a whole host of dramas from drying to heat loss, . I have a merino wool T-shirt I think it came from a company called wool and prince, anyhoo that's what i use if the conditions rule out a cotton T.

Lanterns: Can anyone recommend an LED rechargeable lantern?

I have the older version of the Fenix CLR23, gives out a decent spread of light and has lots of different modes. Some of the things i like about it and don't like. It uses AA batteries, i use rechargeable with a separate charger. Has many different modes and power outputs including very bright...
