Before I purchased the Pinewood forge and my Cape forge knives, I used all three of these. In fact the 510 is still my main roughing out blade.

Used one of the NBF knives. I liked the longer handle for two handed pulling cuts. I ended up giving it away for a thread contest on another "Blade" forum drumming up interest in carving and tradition crafts. It was fun so I didn't mind parting with it. Sorry for the thread...

I have seen those on Rick's site, and often wanted to try one of the bent knives. There always out of stock. :confused:

I would agree with you on the Carpenter to an extent. I have no experience myself, but have read glowing reviews regarding both knives and their carving prowess. For me it comes down to money. For what I would spend on one carpenter, I could almost buy two hand forged blades from a custom...

Throw in a GB Scandi Forest axe, and a Opinel saw and those would be the tools I have used the longest and always seen to end up with. My kind of place. Blue Mountain ridge. S.E. Washington State.

Well done Robin!! I will be eager to see the outcome of what you and Del come up with and how you like it. I use a Mora 510 now for my large roughing blade. It's not too deep, but is no good in tight concave areas. I like the sweep to the Sloyd blade, and one with a little more length...

Thanks! The green wood I've been carving is spruce, and white pine. The others are Tupelo and Butternut. Top pic, top spoon is white pine, middle spoon is spruce, and third is Butternut. The other spoons that look very white are Tupelo Thank you! All of my spoons have some light...

Received a bent knife from Del Stubbs a while back. WOW, what a great carver for spoons and small bowls. Not sure why I'm surprised. He makes a great Sloyd knife as well. Pics of my favorite carvers and some recent/older work: Carvers from left to right. Cape Forge...

Besides all the great advice you received above, my suggestion would be to just jump in and start carving. Paying close attention to safety of course. ;) Learning through trial and error is a sound one IMO, and can be satisfying when the error part is in the minority.:D Also, nothing is...

I've been lurking in and around BCUK for some time. Looking for ideas on new project, knives, kit, ect.... I've been bitten by the spoon carving bug lately and wanted to share. Also, big vote of thanks to Robin, and Nicola Wood for the vids on Youtube. Good stuff. :)

Well this changes for me weekly. I just discovered Enzo a while back. Great knives. Wetterlings Hunter Ezno Trapper North Bay Forge hook knife SAK "Farmer" is an all time favorite for me. Used it for years. With my OCD thats amazing..... ;) Last but not least I can't...

Sorry to hear about your excursion. I must say...you were much more pleasant than I might have been. I can't say for sure what I might have said until I was in your spot :o I go the the same spot here in the U.S. at least once a year by myself. Almost every time I'm there I spend 1/2 hour...
