Intriguing find whilst out and about

Good eye. Not sure what part of W. Sussex your walk was but as you probably know the South Downs were used extensively for training during WW2, the Canadians were there about 1942. Near Kithurst Hill there's an old Churchill tank they used for target practise, a website I was reading reckons...

    Teach me about GPS!

I'm a garmin fan so I've not really tried the other makes so won't be able to help with comparisons but the garmin models can be had for £130 - £160 for a good one. you can pay more of course if you need all the bells and whistles, you can also pay less with the base models under £100 but...

Hypothetical Kit lists to go with kit pledge

Always useful seeing others kit lists, one of these days I might keep mine to just what I need :) Is there a particular reason you're using a tarp in winter but 2 ponchos in summer or is it just personal preference?

    bannock

Thanks I'll try the tips next time I have a go, from what you've said I made mine far too thick. solid bread is a good description, I can work with that :D

    bannock

I realise this may sound like a dumb question but what is bannock supposed to end up like? I tried making some but think I had the pan too hot and burnt one side, but realised I have no idea what it's supposed to be like to know if I've made it right. Mine came out quite chewy, tasted nice...

    What did you buy today?

Picked up a new pouch to keep my firekit in, if it gets any bigger it'll be a daypack ;) and while in TK Maxx looking for a step stool for the campervan spotted some pretty cool looking EMSA flasks so got a 0.5l in drab olive green for £3 and a 0.7l in normal shiny finish for £4 :red:

    Hi all

That's certainly true, this site put me onto fire pistons which is my favourite method so far

    sleeping bag cover drawstring problem

yup jams solid as you say. good to know it's the design and not a dodgy bag, my theory is that there is just too much material to bunch up properly from the single pull point it has, so I'll try different cord that should have less friction and add a couple of more points to pull from, see if...

    sleeping bag cover drawstring problem

Hi Sorry if this has already been covered but I couldn't find it in a search. I've recently moved on to using a DPM goretex sleeping bag cover but I've found the drawstring round the hood to be useless. I'm expecting to be able to close the opening in the same way I can with my sleeping bag...

    Hi all

Although I've been reading this forum for a while, and have recently returned to it, I think this is the first time I've registered so figured I better say hello. Hello More interested in firecraft than bushcraft but never one to turn down knowledge :)
