    Hi Welcome.

    Titanium Hatchet?

How many joules per second does your axe apply to your fire wood? :lmao: I suspect that most of us are far more interested in function and effectiveness than definition. I’ll repeat my previous point here: Has anyone used one or seen one in use?

    First things first

I think many here would agree but it’s not what I usually do. I don’t have a set routine. (who’d have thought? :lmao:) I would very probably make myself a hot drink first. That’s an outside activity in all except the worst of weathers. For me it’s also very relaxing. The tent isn’t a...

    First things first

Me too @TeeDee - my question is really, once that decision is made and you stop: what follows. From about 4.30 I’d have been looking out for somewhere to sleep. It may or may not have been where I prepared my meal. Sometimes I’d be waiting for dark before setting up sleeping arrangements...

    First things first

Just been re-reading The Forest by S E White (1908); something that I do on a regular basis.. It’s very basic because that’s what they had. It’s a great way of keeping things simple. He describes month long hikes in the “virgin“ Canadian forests. On arriving at his chosen camping site, lays...

90 ptn sleeping bag or the British Army FESCA Modular Sleep System MEDIUM only

I use an old 90pat and love it. As it (and I ) get older it is losing some its once excellent insulating properties. It was called “all season“ but I tended to sleep on top of it in the warmer months I’ve done two things: Bought a Snugpack back up. and Got myself several liners for the 90. A...

    Walking sticks and staffs

We’ve just enjoyed a meal at my absolute favourite vegetarian restaurant in Llanidloes. As we entered an elderly lady was just getting ready to leave. She drew her folding stick from a holster and it clicked into place like the cocking of a breach - it was quite intimidating!

    Ahoy! from the Alps

    Hi Welcome.

    Brain Training

Another puzzle: Simple but not necessarily easy. Two motorway junctions - A and B are 113 miles apart. You travel from A to B at an average of 30mph. How fast must your return journey (B to A) be in order to average 60mph for the round trip? Just a thumbs up when you’ve got it to avoid spoilers.

    Titanium Hatchet?

Once you get into the physics there are so many factors. A 400nm edge or a 300nm edge. The fictional coefficient of tool surface and substrate (why it was worth the agonisingly long job of smoothing a flint axe) etc. etc. Has anyone used one? Does it work on the jobs for which you bought it...

    Sharpening

If anyone wants to practice field sharpening (No bench) using, say, a puck, hone or even a steel: Try colouring your working edge with a sharpie. You can easily see where your hone is working and adjust accordingly. From experience I’d say: don’t be scared. You can’t do anything that can’t...
