    Solar Eclipse

I went out about 01.00 for an hour or so and saw some spectacular ones. Colours, trails, fast, slow

    Trail Cams

I used a generic Chinese one that’s been fine for badgers, mice in the lift etc, think it was around £55. My mum has a Spypoint that’s pretty good. FWIW, Spypoint have built in GPS trackers so you can find your camera and the person who nicked it.

    Film recommendation

Although it was April last year, I need to check that you've seen Tombstone now? I can't stand westerns on the whole, but Tombstone is a masterpiece.

    Dangerous trees

Summer branch drop on a majestic old Beech. This is the two large lower limbs both snapped out. And definitely would not have been a good place to pitch up for the night. And here a pic of the leaves on a nearby tree, which shouldn't be browning off and falling yet.

Can you help me choose a small multipurpose camp knife?

The M4 is a very decent knife, perhaps a little on the larger and heavier size for the smaller jobs with it's 4mm thickness. I got mine convexed by our man here, Longstrider. And then convexed again a bit higher by Trashcanman. It's a demon now.

Can you help me choose a small multipurpose camp knife?

The Safari is a lovely thing, I had one for a few years but I sold it. I felt the 2.5" blade was perfect for game prep but not long enough to make is a general purpose knife.

The seed has been sown ;) There's something nice about pulling out a quality blade when the ingredients for the evening meal come out at camp.

That’s a great reminder to get the Sno-Seal on my boots.

    Newbie

It’s lovely. Kingley Vale down the road, Petworth Park on my doorstep. And a lovely ancient spring.

    What did you buy today?

They’re good things indeed. Unfortunately I lent my XL to a friend in Suffolk so I only have the regular one. She’s tiny too, didn’t look at the stuffsack before donating it. The Helikon Swagman poncho has been blanket of choice in the heat. Bought today, a few pairs of eclipse glasses for...

The B41 is a nice thing too. If you were to want a kydex rig, I can probably find out who did Beachlovers one. It was an eBay guy, turned out well.

    New Mora Farnas

This is the very first knife I've ever seen with ash handles, and it's obvious from the pic one of the reasons is the softness and tubules. It's used for pickaxe, axe, adze handles because it's elastic and springy, never seen it on a knife.

3.5" flat ground, great steel. Micarta and G10 available too. May be over budget. https://www.knivesandtools.co.uk/search?q=Lionsteel+b35 Someone on another forum has one and had a kydex sheath made for his. Kubey ticks some the boxes, perhaps not so much for carving...
