    The Cowal Way- June 2012

Walk it south to north, and on your way south to begin the trip cache food stores along the way and then walk for cache to cache. A real weight saver.

    6 days wild camping

It's not clear to me what you're up to, but it seems like you're parking near a fixed (wild) campsite and then carrying everything in with you. Right? Staying in one place will cause of lot of erosion to your site. After a couple of days you'll have made muddy paths around the place, more...

First time wild camping and climbing Ben Nevis.

Until the temperatures start to drop, which depends on location - obviously summer is the worst

    Razor Clams

They're a long way down the beach, so you'll need decent wellies/waders and to get there at low tide.

First time wild camping and climbing Ben Nevis.

Are you proper fit? Many years ago I did a hike from the golf course (car parking there) via the mountain hut, ascending to the summit via a final climb up the south face. Descending the pony track, I then followed the path into Glen Nevis wild camping there. The next day I ascended Aonach...

    Lightweight Overnighter

Does Tony have a Solar? Love that tent, but then I would say that as I've got one. Out of interest, how would your tarp, groundsheet and bivvy compare weight wise with the Solar?

the Ridgeway - a broken man

Having done a few linear, multi-day walks I would recommend caching food and fuel along the route. Use a map to find suitable locations and then on the way to the start in the car, stop-off to hide small packages of consumable provisions. Make sure the cache is fox-proof though. Easy way...

Northumbria - What's it like? Wildcamping?

We did 3 nights out in the Cheviots a couple of years ago. As has already been said, above about 400 or 500 metres the ground is heather and bog all year round. The trees become sitka spruce, which tells you something. We decided to go lower for camping, where we came into contact with...

    Advice please: Bushcraft in Spain

I travel to Spain 2 or3 times a year to visit the wife’s family. Whilst we’re there we always take the time to do some hiking, mostly in the Sierra del Sur (about 50km north of Granada), where her family live, and the Alpujarras. However, we have also hiked in the Picos. Generally, although the...

    Carving Pine

In it's natural habitat (up north) pine grows slowly and has a nice grain for carving. When it's grown as a crop or ornimentally further south, it just loves the sunny weather and grows very quickly giving a wide grain that isn't too good against a knife. The moral - get your pine from Norway!
