    New firesteels

I agree with Goatboy, it will get easier with time and practice. Although I have found some firesteels have less effective strikers than others, which made it quite tricky for me. I resorted to using the spine of my knife which throws a great amount of sparks. Good luck with it, no doubt...

how long you long.have you been a bushy amd where ?

I've been outdoors since I was tiny. Off up the highlands regularly, local and not so local woodlands. In fairness though I wouldn't call my self a "bushcrafter" although I do practice what people know as bushcraft or outdoor living skills.

    Candles problem?

Not sure if you will entertain the idea of a UCO mini, takes tea lights. Works well.

DD Superlite Hammock quick review with picks.

Nice review, certainly looks a nice bit of kit. Will definitely have a chat with Nick the next time I'm down about it. A very good purchase for downsizing your gear for a day pack. AtB

    What did you buy today?

I will do, so far I'm finding the jumper to being doing exactly what it says on the tin. I was actually excited about the wind and rain this morning. Kept the wind out and stood up to the rain. Although, I would not want to rely on it during a downpour, but it does cope well with light rain...

    Gransfors in short supply?

The point on pricing is a general point, if a retailer consistently sells a product for far less than RRP they cheapen the brand and therefore will eventually stop getting stock - if the manufacturer see fit. In regard to The Bushcraft Store, and from working for a company that sell GB axes...

Treated myself to a new jumper. Got the Pinewood Hurricane in Dark Grey, windproof and water-repellent.

    Gransfors in short supply?

Supply Issue, plain and simple. From what I've heard a machine has broken. Some retailers are losing their right to sell Granfors due to undervaluing the brand by selling at far less than retail.... Maybe that's why they are out of stock??

Best and worst boots you have owned.

Disagree, best pair I have owned is a pair of Karrimor Skido boots. Great boots, and trust me I wore them alot. Comfy, even with factory insoles. Leather was hard wearing, if treated properly. They may be cheap, but they are a great pair for the price. Worst pair.... a pair of cotton trader...

Any place to practice survival skills near Edinburgh?

Hello, A few places round about that could be quite good provided you seak out a spot hidden off track, are corstorphine wood and the woods beside craigmillar castle. Plenty of dead fall, ideal for debris/ stealth shelters. The Pentland hills are definitely a good place to go, as above, there...

Walk and camping the West Highland Way

Hey there Frampi, firstly assess what gear you will need, everything you "should" need should fit inside a 60-65ltr pack. GO AS LIGHT AS POSSIBLE, avoid packing loads of tinned goods etc, there's plenty stops along the way to re-supply. Take advantage of the "honesty shops" dotted about along...

good wildcamp spots near loch lomond ?

Hey Bilbo, the bylaws now in place on Loch Lomond cover only the east bank. The forest found on the eastern side of the loch on the way from Balmaha to Rowerdennan however is not off limits. Its camping loch side that's the issue. Search for Loch Lomond bylaws, there's a map that details what...
