    Tomahawks

I recently decided to quell my Tomahawk envy and contacted Steve Iley of Coal Creek Forge. The object of my affection was a pattern welded damascus Roger's Rangers Hawk I read about here http://sbgswordforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=otherweaponreviews&action=display&thread=12818...

"DIY Duluth" - home made canvas/leather pack (pic heavy)

I agree with everyone here about how this is a very nice pack. In fact what you have just built is pretty much what I would consider a perfect day pack. I've been looking for a 30 ltr Duluth style in the size and configuration just as you have built yours and I have not seen one yet. I have a...

    Zippo Hand Warmer.

I have two. One is great, the other not so much. For some reason one of them is hard to light especially with a butane lighter struggling in the cold. I ended up buying a box of 40 chemical hand warmers at costco as back up until i figure it out. I ordered a zippo lighter and i'm hoping it works...

    Boots for African trekking/building

I have no personal experience with boots from Russell Moccasin, from what I've read in various places they are the ones to measure all the others against. They are expensive and you must wait a good while for delivery, but they are custom made and will probably be the best boots you ever own in...

    Cold weather Boots

Barry, I hope you enjoy your trip to Canada, The Great White North. For winter boots I have tried lots of stuff over the years and last year I finally figured it all out (at least for me). To me the weight of the boot is important as many winter boots are warm but weigh a ton (tonne) ...Mors...

    Going from ember to flame.

I see lot's of good suggestions using dry fluffy plant material which will work very well. Blackdog's suggestion for jute is a good one too... In the event that you haven't saved any tinder or it is too wet, the jute is a nice solution. Here's a video on how to use jute with flint and steel...

Survival in the Bush; Bernard Devlin 1954

I believe you are right about bear hunting to day but as Baggins said, that was a different time. What was really impressive to me was everything that Angus could do including his artistry with an axe, gerry

Canada in September - What to expect?

As I was up late last night posting I forgot to mention a good resource for your research. Canadian Canoe Routes is the premier site and forum for canoeing in Canada. I am sure you will find lots of information there that will be of interest. With just a quick look I found a thread on Canoeing...

Canada in September - What to expect?

Hi, I was born in Scotland, raised in Canada, live northwest of Toronto and I’m new to BCUK. September is a great time to vist Ontario and Algonquin Park. Spring is the main season for mosquitoes and blackflies so you should have very little to worry about. If you want to be 100% certain...
