    Unissued British Enfield No.4 MK2 .303 1955

Wish I'd been a member and you'd posted this several months back - my dad used to have a No.4 converted to .410 and only recently gave away the 'pigsticker' and the canvas sling...just to encourage you they are still kicking about! Good luck with the search :)

    Finding the North Star.

Not an expert at this by any means, but have spent the last 6 years doing astronomy-related science-communication, so will answer what I can - first up, nice animation :) In rough order then... @petrochemicals - oftentimes, the brightest object will stand out while moving about, even just...

    Trangia alternatives?

Had pretty similar results from the real-mcCoy (if elderly) Trangias I used in Scouts as I have from my Lidl knock-off (tiny camping kettle from Tesco fits inside nicely too...) or the oval mil version, though mine is Swedish. Points re weight/mass of burner and lack of non-stick already made...

    Lingo Differnces

Further to the wander/bimble/dau'ner etc how about skyte as in "skyte'n about the shops" - guess relating to skyte=skid or slide/slip but not just used when it's icy, rather to wander aimlessly or windowshop. Others that might be worth mentioning that I don't think have popped up yet, a...

Thanks for the welcomes folks :) BareThrills - afraid not, unrelated object. I tried to post up about it earlier in the Giant Kill Rock thread, but being new my posts sat for mod approval. They are up now, hopefully with stuff of use/interest to people, so feel free to have another look. If...

    Giant Kill Rock!

Hello, for the pass of the asteroid this evening, http://www.heavens-above.com/2012da14.aspx?lat=55.9491&lng=-3.161075&loc=Edinburgh&alt=17&tz=GMT gives you the times and directions. That is for Edinburgh, but you can easily tweak it for where you are. It's going to be faint, so you'll need at...

    Hello from Edinburgh

Morning all. Just thought I'd check in, been lurking for a while, getting my bearings so to speak, and loving all the fantastic info on here. Hope to learn much, much more as time goes by, and when the odd thing pops up that I know something about, looking forward to being able to share and...

    Giant Kill Rock!

Russian meteor unrelated to tonight's fly-by of asteroid 2012DA14 - wrong direction and at the wrong time. Good round-up of YouTube videos of the Chelyabinsk meteor can be found herehttp://www.planetary.org/blogs/emily-lakdawalla/2013/02142336-breaking-meteor-fall-causes.html though I suggest...

    Article: Magic biscuits

Good write up, thanks! If you're looking to do a large batch, rather than using direct heat it might be worth looking for a double boiler, keeps the heat longer and more evenly, reduces the risk of getting the wax dangerously hot! Worked well when I used to make candles :)
