    Bees for the Garden

Oblio, I too am interested in how you and your bees get on with the top-bar hive. I use a national myself but have been thinking of expanding my colony and using the top-bar hives.

    Bees for the Garden

I started beekeeping last year and really enjoy it but do worry about everyone jumping on the honeybee bandwagon when all of our bees are struggling. I think that it would be great if we also tried to help the solitary bee and bumble bee populations. I don't like the idea of plastic nest boxes...

Frosts Mora Clipper - Help Required

I'm looking for some help with regards to my newly purchased Frosts Mora Clipper (carbon). I've had it about two weeks now and use it mainly for making tent pegs, carving spoons and batoning wood into smaller pieces. I've already managed to cause some damage to the edge but haven't got a clue...

Is this good for making Amadou?

I recently collected a birch polypore (false tinder fungus) whilst out on a bimble and left it to dry in my front room. Today I was playing with it and found that the corky/foam top part took a spark really well and when left to its own devices created a large useful ember. I also tried to light...

    what size rucksack?

Whether I'm out for a couple of nights or a couple of weeks I usually use a 100 litre PLCE Bergan which I fill to the top with 'just in case' items, extra clothing, wet food, etc. Of course I am always carrying too much weight and it can be a nightmare traveling any distance. I've been...

    eBay Hammock

Never tried a DD one so I cannot compare the two. But my TW version is comfy, dries out quickly if I get it wet and the stitching appears to be solid. One modification worth making is to add a couple of metal rings from fleabay at either end to act as drip rings.

    eBay Hammock

Hello Andrew, I have one of these from Tenth Wonder ( the black XL version ). I find it well made and very comfortable for my 6ft 4in frame. I've had very good service from them so far (no connection, just a happy customer). One thing I would say from my own trips out into the wilderness...

Bimble, hobo, fungus, lichen & hot choccy!

Thank you everyone. ocean1975 if I'd have known that I could have made a plaster out of it today and saved myself some mess, ne'ermind I shall store that away in my head for next time. Been slicing it up this evening and it's very interesting. There's the top part which I guess is used as a...
