Killarney Provincial Park back-country hiking trip

This spring my Wife had somehow agreed to go "backpack camping" so I held her to her word and on June 29th we headed to Killarney Provincial Park to do a back-country hiking trip on the Park's "La Cloche Silhouette Trail": https://www.ontarioparks.com/park/killarney This was her first...

    Grohmann #3 Knife

I have been wanting to get a quality fixed blade "bushcraft/survival/utility" knife for many years. I decided on the Grohman #3 Canadian Army Knife (aka boat knife) and finally ordered it and received it in the mail. Groham's website: http://www.grohmannknives.com/pages/r3s.html Unboxing...

    Snugpak jacket advice needed

I have 3 Snugpak jackets; the Pile Elite, the Sleeka Elite and the Ebony jacket which you are inquiring about. Each of the 3 are different and would be better suited for different weather conditions and uses. I am in the Canadian Forces Reserve Army (25 years so far) and have "substituted" some...

    Military Connections?

Canadian Reserve Army since 1984, currently an Infantry Sergeant and still enjoy serving. My passion is for the winter and Arctic Ops and being Canadian there is lots of opportunity for being out in the cold.

    post a picture of yourself

Hi, these are the standard CF issue 10 man bell style arctic tents, fairly heavy but made to withstand the Arctic! Holds 10 men but you are packed in tight, 7 is comfortable. They have a liner in them and we use just a good old coleman lantern and coleman 2 burner stove for lighting, cooking and...

    Web-tex boots for Arctic?

If you are going to be in temps of -10 or below then Goretex is not needed and in fact can be detrimental as it does not allow your boots to "breathe" once you get below 0ish. As Alfa said you are far better off using a "Mukluk" type boot such as Sorel makes. Goretex in the Arctic is a huge...

    Show us yer tents!

Eureka Timberline Outfitter 6, this is on a canoe trip up in Algonquin in August. Great tent, so quick and easy to pitch. And this was the view the other direction,

Where is your favourite place to camp?

Algonquin, plan on going up for the long (Thanksgiving) first weekend in October.

What's the latest bit of kit you've bought and why?

A Eureka Timberline Outfitter 6 tent as I needed something larger for the family but I do not want some cheap, flimsy Canadian Tire tent. Plan on using it for plain old campground camping and canoe camping.

    Snugpak Ebony jacket

Thanks for the reply British Red, I too own a Snugpak Sleeka Elite and also a Pile Elite which are both excellent pieces of kit. I am interested in the Ebony due to its removable hood and also as it is warmer, I'm headed up to the North West Territories in a month and would like a bit warmer...

    Snugpak Ebony jacket

Does anyone own a Snugpak Ebony jacket http://www.snugpak.com/30_codegreen/32_07_ebony.htm I'm interested in possibly getting the Ebony jacket versus the Snugpak Sasquatch and would like to hear about it from anyone that has one.

Snugpak special forces combo sleeping bag - any good

I have the Snugpak SF combo and have been satisfied with its performance so far. I have not used both together but have only used the SF1 and SF2 separately, I should state I also have a Snugpak TS1 liner that is in the bags all the time. Despite the reports of Snugpaks temperature ratings...
