    dissertation ideas

How about examining the opposing views of backpacking (i.e. take everything you need into the wild on your back) and bushcraft (take only the tools you need to live in the wild). You could find out what these two camps of people thought about 'conservation' and then assess what the environmental...

    Emmrod fishing rods

Hi everyone I was just wondering whether anyone had tried an Emmrod fishing rod. They look like toys but I noticed that they get some good reviews on the US bushcraft websites. http://emmrod.co.uk

Buying woodland? Is it worth it?

Hi all I was recently at a Forestry Commission forest health day where they were discussing the increase in new tree diseases. Many of the commercial woodland owners and managers were looking pretty nervous when they left. Red band needle blight and the various phytopthora species were...

    Can anyone identify these?

Hi Red Devil I was just thinking that elms are very susceptable to these type of galls or burrs and since you're in Scotland you are still likely to encounter mature specimens.

    Bushcraft v.s. Survival

Hi All I think the key thing here is that Bushcraft is a subculture. There is a common ideology which goes way beyond just 'what do i need to do to survive' e.g. when i go sea kayaking i pack a VHF radio, a satellight personal distress beacon, strobe light, flares etc- the point is that if...

    Native forests in scotland

Hi Forry I think Loch Lomond has bits of Alder riparian woodland near the Loch side and higher up on the hillsides are upland birch types. If you make a trip over to Argyll there's some fantastic Atlantic Oak woods around Tayvallich and tarbert. Callum
