Regarding our posts about the Kabar and the Faiburn yes there are two schools of thought about knife fighting and knife selection. Most forces which use the Fairburn or a similar design train with it as a stealth weapon used to creep up on a sentry and remove him without alerting the main enemy force or for some similar use. The forces that issue Kabars or other larger (heavier) knives tend to view them more as a weapon of last resort to be used face to face with the enemy when all else has failed. In all reality on the modern battlefied with all the body armor combatants now wear and the speed and ferocity of modern combat makes bladed weapons usefullness dubious at best. I didn't want to get into this on the open forum, because as has been pointed out, This is after all a bushcrafting forum and not a warfare forum.
