Wanted: Heavy dutySteel awl

I'm looking for a heavy duty steel awl to go in a bushcraft kit I'm putting together. harder and tougher and longer the better! Handled or with no handle!

just out of interest I have started using a dart head [unscrew the shaft section ] as an awl for outdoor camping nice and strong, thick and sharp

Do you mean an awl? Or an auger? Can't imagine the point in a very long awl?

Old screwdrivers make good awls.

I have found a source for vintage 4.5 inch forge cut masonry nails. I think they could be great.

I'll make sure to post any results.

You lot think they may be suitable?

As Ian says - at that length get an old screwdriver, cut the blade off and grind to a point.
