Just found a great website: http://www.geograph.org.uk/
Basically the Geograph British Isles project aims to collect a geographically representative photograph for every square kilometre of the British Isles and you can be part of it.
You can type in a grid reference or lat long, and the site will bring up images from that location. Or you can browse, just select a map area (for example SU) and it'll bring up that area with a selection of major towns marked, from there just click to bring up a series of pictures from that area - but arranged as grid squares. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it.
Also the references are downloadable in a variety of formats to enter into your GPS - you can then (if you wanted) go to that location and see exactly what's in the photograph (assuming the entry was entered correctly!).
I was shocked to see a photo of my house on there!
